Decided to try this board out over the Classified mainly because I have been very happy with the Gigabyte boards I have had in the past. This is my first try at over clocking on an X-58. From what I can tell, loading optimized defaults in bios the vid on this chip is 1.28125v. Thank you to Kimo for helping me with some settings.

This CPU has been running @4.41GHZ(210x21) 1.32v on my old MB, but I haven't tried it on this MB yet.
I have been considering to try @4.4GHZ(220x20) on this MB, but it will probably push my air-cooling to the limits (if not over) for 24/7 use.

Yep, I'm really happy with this chip It is running so fast, stable and cool&quiet now.

I'm curious because people i know can achieve same clock with lower vcore
    before : 4.4GHz DFI t3eh8 1.3V vcore cpuz
    now : 4.4GHz Gigabyte UD7 1.28V vcore cpuz

maybe you can do yours with lower vcore too

220x21 isn't bad at all, if I could Keep it cool&quiet
I've used the same setting as my stable 24/7 setup (except VVT up to 1.34v), and tried @4.64(221x21) up to 1.36v.
But getting BSOD just before w7 login, with "Machine Exception" STOP: 0x0000009C error. It needs some heavy tweaks, I guess.

    Hi Bex,

Just answered your post on the watercooling forum - you will get one of these boards I am sure - just a matter of time, but hey look at what you have already achieved with your current and past boards/setup, sure makes me feel very humble in such talented company - keep up the good work.

    Dang Sam that's nice.

Finally set up the T/R IFX-14. Could only get two fans in there with the extra cooling setup that comes with the board... Mounted it so the air blows straight out the top fan on the P180, but sadly disappointed at temps (so far)
With AS5, a bottom fan sitting inside sucking air through and the top fan on the outside also sucking... the moment I run P95 she goes straight up to mid-80's and within 30 seconds is a mid 90's. I give up at 98, so might try re-mounting it blowing out the back and go with the three fans I originally planned (but wouldn't fit vertically)... push-pull-push and see if that helps. Solid looking chip though... just need the rest of the BIOS MIT settings sorted.

It is probably taking inn hot air from the NB-cooler. The first push-fan is very important too. It is interesting to see how better it gets with horizontal mount.

Yeah, I like this cool&quiet setup too Still trying to optimize it for 24/7 use, but couldn't hope for a better start
Keeping the RAM pretty relax with 1.64v (BIOS set) for now. Still wondering about the real DMM-read value of Vdimm=1.66v, anybody has measured yet?

Guys, I have a quick question about this board, as I am thinking about getting one. I now have 2x5870 in crossfire (which will be watercooled), and a PCI X-fi. I note that with the cards installed in the first 2 PCI-E 16x slots, the PCI slot would not be accessible. If I were to install 1 in the top PCI-E slot, and one in the bottom PCI-E Slot (which i believe is 8x electrical) would this work, and would i loose performance in doing it? I guess the only alternative is to switch to a PCI-E soundcard too!
    System Specs:
    Core i7 2600k
    Asus Maximus V Gene
    4x2gb G-Skill Ripjaw 2133mhz
    MSI Radeon R9 290X
    Asus Xonar Essence STX
    2x Crucial M4 256gb RAID 0
    Seagate 7200.12 3TB HDD
    Corsair AX860i.

    Watercooling Specs
EK Supreme HF, XSPC EX360, XSPC EX240, DDC Ultra w/aquacomputer top, Aqualis XT res, Kryographics 290X GPU block

My understanding is that you must use the top two slots for crossfire. Pretty sure it's in the manual... will check and confirm.

+++edit... the manual actually uses the word "recommend" slots 1 & 2.

Maybe you can? Sorry I can't test it for you, but surely someone here can.

    No prob...

I edited the post above, but the manual actually says... "To set up a 2-way configuration, we recommend installing the graphics cards on the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX_2 slots"

Someone here is going to have to try it for you and see if it works.

Hopefully someone can help me out as well... I'm sure when I read the manual through (yes... I actually did) I read that there is a setting in the BIOS where you can tell it not to bother going and looking for hardware every time it reboots... just to accept what it found last time.

Anyone know where that setting is?

    Thanks

Failed my first try at 4500mhz, not the best chip but I think it will pass with some work. My Water cooling is holding up well though to the high vcore, so I am very happy with the new loop. I do like this board, it recovers well from failed oc. Load vcore is 1.488v

Switched out memory and passed this time using the Dominators, will try and lower vcore now.

You're kidding... I hadn't heard that 12Gb was a no-go/problem. Where is that info, as I am presently looking for a 2nd 6Gb kit to add to the one I have.

Hi guys. So I bought this "THING" I call it a thing because I said %*&#@ thing all morning.
Its a Coolermaster V10. Please understand that I am so far away from knowing anything about anything re Overclocking/tweaking that I need a map to remember where the power button is (exaggerated yes)

    I have a ...
    GA-X58A-UD7 Motherboard
    Intel i7950
    6GB OCZ 2000mhz Cas9.
    Coolermaster real power pro 850W

So the "THING" is a coolermaster V10. Don't believe the hype it was a dream to install and clears my ram easily. It also allows room for the stock heat-sink cooler that came with the board. It all fits very nicely into my Gigabyte Aurora which I thought I got sick of and was about to spend $500 on a new case but now I am liking it all over again. I also thought I would have to buy a new PSU but I dont think I do. It is powering
    2 x SATA Burners
    6 x HDD (main Velociraptor 300gb)
    2 x EXT HDD
    (Total HDD space 4.5TB)
    V10
2 x 9800 GTX+ video cards attached to 4 monitors and more usb peripherals than you can poke a stick at. So I think it might be all good. The 850 works but the cables are stiff, thick and horrible to hide/work with.

I have tried the Overclocking, remember I know nothing so I used easytune. (images below)

Can anyone read the images and tell me if this is good? The temperature/overclock factor does it seem right? I want to learn but it takes me longer due to the self abuse with beer for 25 years (yes I have mild brain damage so its hard to remember new things I learn:coocoo

Anyone with knowledge of any mistakes I am making so far, please be kind and tell me? Cheers guys.

I was really stressing the PC useing PS CS4 with a few images loaded/rendering (2GB images) running a movie and I arked up CRYSIS on full, email, browser etc all running at once for 10 min before I took a screenshot of the temps if thats at all relevant

(I did post this thread at another site if it looks familiar)

By the way. My motherboard still wont boot with a USB or wireless keyboard attached, no matter what I do. Its been like this since day one. Wont even get to bios. Just loops booting. I have to install a PS2 just to boot up. Even pre OS load this was a factor. Both bios F2 and Beta
