On 5th May, 2008, Nine Inch Nails released their latest album, The Slip, free online, as a gift to their fans. Or as Trent put it: "This one's on me".

On December 3rd, 2008, Trent Reznor announces a curtain call for the current touring lineup and stage production, and hints at NIN's touring life coming to an end for the foreseeable future once the current `09 dates are complete. A "relaxed" camcorder policy is announced for 3x of the remaining US shows (Portland, Victoria, Sacramento) on the LITS tour... as a result over 400Gb of raw HD Source from 3+ cameras with console audio mix is released onto the net for fans to self-edit.

On December 13th, 2008, dozens of Nine Inch Nails fans force a relaxed camcorder policy and record the last show in the Lights In The Sky tour at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, with in excess of 10 HD sources. By working together, we aim to create a DVD to document this show that will be released free online, and as a not-for-profit physical release. This one, is on us. Our time. Our effort. Our present to all NIN fans.

Double-feature audio torrent captures the final stages of the Nine Inch
Nails: Lights In The Sky 2008 tour.

'Las Vegas' - consists of a fully fan co-ordinated, recorded, and produced
version of the final show in Las Vegas, mixed and mastered from a variety of
hi-quality fan audio sources.

'The Gift' - takes footage supplied by Nine Inch Nails from 3 different
shows in the final part of the tour, edited and mixed together by us to get the
best of each show.

The torrent is available in either 320kb MP3 or FLAC.

UPDATE: Final Trailer released, torrent-dates released for all shows (see trailer), with "The Gift" being released on 25/12/09 - footage of all 3x LITs shows as released by NiN mixed into one show... Vegas: Another Version of the Truth shortly afterwards. Physical release in 2010.

You do know that Reznor "IS" Nine in Nails? He hires a band to tour with him but all the music is written and recorded by him in the studio. Just a FYI

the original trailers have been taken down by the TOIOU team - not a clue why - I would've just left them there meself...

im not sure i get it... so what exactly is this about? the new album being available for free? or to encourage fans to share and mix audio and video recordings of concerts? or to advertize a fan made tour dvd? or is it made by pros but with fan recorded content?

Multi-part story.

1) NIN released a load of footage filmed by their guys (a few pro angles, and a few shakey handheld random things), for the fans to edit and do with as they please... 3x concerts worth of HD sources, totalling 405Gb - sources were released on Bit-Torrent. Hit up YouTube for "NIN LITS multicam" for examples of what random fans etc have done with this footage.
2) A group of fans then independantly arranged to film the last gig of that tour, in Las Vegas, between them... 24+ HD sources, co-ordinated angles for all shots etc.

TOIOU are releasing...
1) A complete edit of the footage NIN released using all 3x concerts worth of cameras alongside the best audio, to create one full length concert containing all the best shots and audio from that set of footage.
2) A complete fan-recorded and fan-produced dvd of the Las Vegas show.

This all started over 12 months ago, and TOIOU.org has been full of info etc, however, was taken down and replaced with just the trailer for the final release a few days ago. A new site will be launched on release day with all the necessary links to download 1), and links to download 2) added on 25th Jan (I think). The NEW site will be written to co-ordinate the public distribution of physical copies of BOTH releases by the fans, for cost of discs and postage only. IE: UK members of the site will duplicate, produce and distribute physical copies to other UK fans. US ones will cover US etc. The fans doing everything basically...

3) My footage above is a multicam edit of ONE of the 3x gigs that NiN released footage from.
