Thumbs up Corsair HX 850w Pro Series Packs a Punch

I don't have any fancy test equipment at my disposal so I did the next best thing, real world usage.

I will let the pics speak for themselves

The 12 volt rail at the lowest point hit 12.25 in cpu test 1......

I think it's needless to say that this PSU can pull rated specs and then some

You really have no clue how much a single x2 consumes OCed through 06 do you

People don't bench furmark....it isn't ranked on hwbot

AMD platforms can consume up to 500 watts with a junk vid card installed at 6 gig I'm certainly at 200 watt + right now mobo/cpu consumption at this speed with a 140 watt c2 965 BE. I have used a kill a watt, I do know the consumptions....this was ball park 1100-1200w.

I see 4GHz in the screenie. And what's up with the 3rd GFX, that's not used in that 2k6, it more like...idle

Idle with 1.4v boot whether load or idle......its just there to add more power consumption My guess its good for 100 watts. Had I another dual GPU card I would have installed that instead...

I clearly stated if you read entire post above that I was certainly using about 200+ watts at 4 gig for cpu/mobo consumption

When I get my killawatt back I will test but I already know what this platform consumes with 2x 4870 x2's OCED at 4 gig on air from prior testing with killawatt

The only thing I am guessing on is the idle consumption of the 4890

Makes me even happier that I bought this PSU.

Now I just need to do a crossfire set up to actually just begin to justify such a powerful psu, lol.

cpu test 1? doesn't load that much especially with a quadcore....

    try gpu test test....

    or 3dmarkvantage gpu test...

Vantage might load me a tad more platfom wise but I was quick testing. Good enough for me.....the way my cards are clocked with this bios they consume roughly 800 watts in 06 tested on dedicated PSU with killawatt.....not to mention its the only test I have to back off the clocks the most on which tells me they are being loaded more.

The HX850 is the Pro Series. "Pro Series" is the new name for the feature set in the new HX series PSUs.

Anyone know if the 750 is in the same league of decency - out of interest as a friend will be buying one next week.
If the $20 is justified on a 850 - might as well in my book!

HX750 are high end stuff as well. Although tests for it are hard to come by...

For the price difference i'd get the 850 model (well, i did!). Both have the 80+ silver certification.

More testing to come in a few days since some people think that 2x 4870 x2 and 1 x 4890 is not enough load........3x 5970 should do the trick unless I use a molex to 6/8 pin vga adaper.....hmmmm 4 5970....

Impressive cos when I read a review their own rated efficiency at 50% load was 85%.

Tempted to get me one then figure out what the heck I'd use it for
