Possible repair of nf7
i have a dead nf7, someone attempted vmods on it. it was the vdimm mod that went wrong, and the ic under the resistor that is supposed to modded is missing entirely. i was wondering, if this ic was not used for anything else, could i just take 3.3v directly from the psu and make it the vdimm voltage?

Can you post a pic of the damaged area as I am not sure what you are referring to.
IC under the resistor.....explain further.
I would say that it shouldnt be to terribly hard to bypass the damged part...depending on what it is.
If you are saying the Winbond chip is gone...then that is big trouble. Not to mention I would be curious as to how the heck he removed the entire IC.

huge pics
why is it i can NEVER get my camera to take a really good picture? the last one iin there shows the damage best and is the highest quality

oh man, that totally sucks! i would think it can't be fixed... even if u managed to get new Winbond IC it's legs are so small that it couldn't be soldered back... unless u have some great equipment and exceptional soldering skills.
how that happened??? sorry about that...
EDIT: but maybe your picture will contribute to finding out how to make vtt mod for NF7-S...

I might be able to get a chip directly from winbond. My grandpa has a vacuum thing ic applier, works good. It can remove TSOP and put it back on, im not sure about this. The only thing i dunno how to get around is getting the traces, some of them are missing if you see

u can repair some of the traces with a silver lacquer, but i mean u might as well get a new board..
requires too much effort to fix it, and new NF7 are cheap as chips anyway
-
I have a dead nf7 that I could desolder that IC and send it to you if you wanna try to fix it.
Like bachus_anonym said, how'd that happen?
-
its cheap if i had money.... i have absolutely 0 cash man.. it happened when afrakes (from eocf) tried the voltmods. he got too big a glob of solder and covered pins, and ended up removing the whole ic. twiggy, what do you plan on doing with this nf7?
-
Nothing man, its just sitting in my closet collecting dust.
-
Ouch man.
I am not sure I wanna know how that happened.
I would order another board and keep that one for parts.

hmmm
Like I said....spare parts. Heatink, BIOS, connectors, etc.
Anyone wanna donate a dead one to the cause....vmod development?... Just to borrow.
