    AMD Athlon II X3 425 @ X4 B25 + ATI 5770

I ordered only one X3 425 just to test it and it is unlockable so I overclock it a little bit and test 3D with ATI 5770...

    Info

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=829418

    Everest temperature

2D hwbot benchmarks and more overclocking to come, so far quick overclock on air 3900mhz with all cores, but for now stable 24/7 3.6GHz frequency

    Test hardware

    AMD Athlon II X3 425 @ X4 B25 3.6GHz + Big Typhoon
    Asrock M3A785GMH/128M
    2x1GB Super Talent DDR3 1800 CL7
    XFX 5770
    Corsair TX850
    Win7 X64 Ultimate

I wanted to use 2x2GB Kingmax 1600 CL9 memory but I was receiving BSOD during windows installation so I decided to change them with my test ram for overclocking...

Resolution is 1920*1200, all benchmarks are in highest details available in game options without AA or AF, second run will be highest details available + highest AA and AF if anyone is interested... I have similar thread here with 5850 and Intel E8600 so you can compare it a little if you want...

Little update with 2D benchmarks, cheap cpu + mbo combination, but it goes nice on air...

Interesting thing is that there is no X3 425 results at hwbot so far...

It looks like this cpu is the cheapest Deneb based quad core cpu in the market if you are lucky enough to unlock 4th core and you have MSI mobo so far to unlock L3

I was wondering why cpu-z recognize my Athlon II X3 425 unlocked as Phenom II X4 B25 when there is no L3 unlocked, but according to this article L3 can be unlocked with MSI new bios, they didn't have successful 4th core unlock like me, so I'm sure others manufacturers will be able to unlock both core and L3 soon...

    Grats on the unlock!

I'm all confused now; I thought only the earlier AthlonII were made using the same PII architecture. I was under the impression the cache is not physically on the chip to cut manufacturing costs.

The Chinese sites do love thier crack!

    Nice Results m8!

Could you give an Everest Bench Screeny??

Your motherboard is M3A785GMH/128M??The Manufacturer says that it is based on AMD 785G/AMD SB710 and your Cpuz gives 785G/SB750.(????)

    Hi m8!

My last post is about unlocking L3 cache and the same link as yours

CPU-Z doesn't recognise any SB710, it will be fixed probably in next versions, I've seen many SB710 recognized as SB750...

I don't have this chip any more, but I will order more of them because people ask for them after my thread in local forum in my country so I will give you everest benchmarks, probably with different motherboard

O yeah you are right about the link.I haven't read your last post..

Probably your next mobo is one of these,ha??

    I'm interested in Χ3 425+785GM-E51 combo for a new HTPC,because Χ3 425 unlocks to X4 ..and MSI unlocks the "hidden" L3..

    Go for an MSI m8.

    I've read in a Greek forum that X3 425 unlocks also it's L3 with a MSI 770-C45.

    http://www.insomnia.gr/forum/showthread.php?p=3031934

    Also a L3 unlock on Χ4 620.

Cele303, congrats about your nice piece of cpu

my result for X3 425 @3.9 is up from 15/11, though i don't know why i had to re-enter the name of the cpu...We are using similar boards though...

What is your result @X3 ? Is the batch number available ?

    Thanx

Thanks guys, I love X3 425 @ X4 B25 price / performance ratio... AMD is giving some real freebies, respect!

Ok, so I have ordered MSI 790FX GD70 and four X3 425 and 5870, it should arrive in two or three days, 5870 is the question because of very big interest so good connections counts and I don't have any connection...

I was thinking, why is MSI so special? Because of core control? I bet they had CACYC chip, not CADAC and they unlocked L3 just like CACYC 620 on any motherboard...

Mine CACYC 620 for example can be unlocked on Asrock and Gigabyte without ACC core control...

My previous 425 was 0939CPRW, I'm not sure which one, too bad I didn't capture default windows boot what I usually do... If I receive CACYC chip in few days I bet I will unlock it on any board I have... Big difference is default cpu vid, CACYC 1.2250V and CADAC 1.4250V, upper limit is the same ~ 3.6 - 3.7 ~ 1.50V... By default bios or cpu-z info you can know if you are able to unlock L3 or not...

GeorgeVasil, why do you need X4 and L3 for HTPC? You need low TDP, as low as possible so you can cool it passive, you need gpu accelerated playback so no need for big core number or cpu performance...

MSI is special because it can unlock the L3 6MB Cache.

Only these mobo can unlock the L3.

    CACYC=Deneb

    CADAC=Propus (no L3)

    I buyed one CACYC AC0938FPMW and i am waiting for a 785GM-E51.

I have chosen this CPU because of price/performance ratio.

Exactly, only CACYC matters, and every mobo with ACC can unlock CACYC L3, not only MSI...

CACYC is an AMD CPU stepping code: http://www.cpu-world.com/step_codes/C/CACYC%20AC.html

Speaking of an Athlon II I should have a X3 435 in my hands before the new year is over which I plan on matching with a Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P.

No good news, 4 chips, all CADAC, no L3, they are all 4th core unlocked and cpu string is Phenom II B25 so my first chip was 100% CADAC like this ones, only thing that is different from the beginning of this thread is this better cpu validation on air, maybe I will have more luck with CACYC next time I order them...

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=874071

EDIT: This screenshot is not mine, it is borrowed just to see that MSI is nothing special about L3 unlocking...

What ACC settings are you using?

I have an Athlon II X3 435 (AACYC AC 0923EPMW) on a Gigabyte 790X-UD4P (bios F9). With ACC set to "Auto" and firnware set to "Hybrid" I can get the POST screen to read "Phenom II B35" but I can't seem to find a setting that is bootable. All I get is a black screen just before the Windows load screen shows.

I haven't tried disabling the 4th core using the "CPU Core Control" option but I guess this means my chip has a defective 4th core/L3?

Probably your 4th core is not stable, core unlocking with ACC Auto is always easiest if the cores are healthy, you can disable 4th core with Core Control and try 3 cores + L3, so far I didn't have 620 chip with unlocked defective L3 cache, they are all fine when unlocked, but I did't have any unlocked 425/435 4th core + L3... When unlocked core is not stable you can tweak it with - ACC values, for overclocking unlocked cores I use + values, so you can try for example combination of -2 -4 -6 etc ACC + raising voltages, cpu, cpu-nb or nb, if your core can't be fine tweaked, forget it and just use unlocked L3 cache

    With ACC option Auto/2 cores enabled..L3 unlocks..(X4 B25 processor with 2 core).
With ACC option Auto/3 cores enabled, mobo does not post..
With ACC option Auto/All cores enabled, mobo does not post..

That's interesting, X3 + unlocked L3 cache = no bios post? Did you try with 0,1,2 or 0,1,3 cores active? Did you try hitting RESET button once or twice after unlocking at no bios post situation? Sometimes bios won't post but after reset button it post, if not, after few reset attempts bios will activate fail safe boot guard and boot setup defaults
