Thank you my friend it doesn't look as clean as i wanted but works like a charm, had lots of trouble soldering the measurin point from the mem as in my card came with almost nothing of tip in that side 3 times unsoldered...is there any other point to measure vmem ?

    Cheers

Does anybody have any ideas about a proper vmod for the 1.1PCB? I tried the only vmod I could find (by soldering directly to the leg on the volt reg) but found it didn't have any positive effect on the clocks of my card. It shows that the voltage is going up but makes no difference in clock speeds and doesn't even raise the GPU temps!? I have one card that is of the original PCB and that mod works fine but the new PCB design doesn't seem to be effected by the mod. My volt meter shows vGPU of 1.29v but clocks no differently then at 1.14v stock. And temps are not the issue, they are fine at 41 under load.

after further mods.. stalker cop @ 821/1872/1512 arctic accelero/air cooled

    q9650 @ 4.5ghz
    ddr2 @ 1250
    ep45 @ dq6
    ~1.42vgpu @ load
    ~2.32vmem @ load

almost 1890 shader stable.. if for more vgpu this 285 could do more on air cooling

this may be the last result on 285.. as im getting ssc and ftw ready to be handed down to my cousins

its been a crazy year may the next be crazier

    very nice mate

i still on 1,37 load and mem on 2,2 for 821/1800/3096 but if i go on more core i get solid colours will try to go for more vgpu but i tested and same...OCP/OVP is working but maybe extra protection or other thing elsewhere...

    thanks mate

higher vgpu remedies solid color screens after ocp mod but not always..

yeh every mod ive tried and have done/tried many mods.. i hit a wall/bottleneck fast.. ive double decked the 6x r22 inductors.. was gonna double deck the mem induction aswell but gave up

hopefully fermi will bear better/more flexy voltage regulator/regulation

yes will try today i can play DIRT2 at 821/1800/2900 at loaded 1,36vgpu 2,2vmem, and crysis at 810/1836/3024 same volts and 810/1836/3096 on 3DM06and unigine's..but stalker gave me solid colours at 821 core...just can pass it at 810/1800/1548 same volts

will up some volts and see, also W7x64 forces a lot

Cheers Napalm and thanks for all again

Hey guys, i'm new here on these forums and I have been reading this thread for days( reading re-reading) I am now ready to take the plunge but I have a question. On Crotale's ocp mod he says to use a 100k vr and tune it to max resistance, are we sure that it is a 100k vr cause the guy at Radio Shack showed me one today and it was MASSIVE. I got 2 10k vr and a 100 vr. Now by tunig to max resistance he means tuning to 10k or whatever the max size vr you have correct? And am I safe in using the 10k vr for the ocp mod? Thanks in advance, I can't wait to unlock the sleeping beast in this thing

Wow, I just took some baselines tests and i'm a little surprised. I have an EVGA GTX285 SC edition. I tested volts at idle 1.26 gpu, 2.18 mem, under load 1.31 gpu, 2.23 mem. Bear in mind that this is an unmodded card and I am getting volts some of you guys are getting with ur mods. Does that mean that I can possibly go farther with the volts by doing the mods? I may have a better card then I thought One more thing, I have answered my own question on the resistors, apparantly the guy at the shack don't know squat, I found the exact ones I need. I will post back with results when I get the vrs, later for now.

ocp mod is smtg you dont have to keep adjusting.. best if a fixed resistor is used (10 ohm or 100 ohm) whatever you got handy.. if vr.. set it low @ 10-100 ohm.. i went below 10 ohm and nothing bad happened solder the vr/resistor between the ocp point and ground and forget it

thats the same volts as the evga ftw.. youll probably get some nice clocks outta that ^

    good luck!

    Interesting stuff indeed...

Grabbed my xfx 285 vanilla today and make the 1.26v mod ( liquid silver )

How many volts did you guys tested with stock cooler without changing the fan speed?

I've tested with furmark and give me 83ºC but gaming barely passes 60ºC.

Hey peeps, so far I have ocp mod compete, it definately is working because the pink screens are gone. The problem now is the display drivers keep crashing, lack of volts I guess. I can't find a circuit pen anywhere, guess i'll have to order one, and I can't solder the connections. This is my first attempt at anything like this and let's say my soldering sklls leave something to be desired. I'll post back when I get the volt mods complete with some results. I would like to thank everyone for working on this especially napalm and crotale Thanks guys

yes mate luck of volts tough i could never get red even with OCP/OVP mod of solid colours over 821 core

i used GPUTOOL yesterday and find max stable at 820/1845/2952 at vgpu 1,36load vmem 2,2

good luck on the mod mate

I think I may have done osmething wrong. I have done the ocp mkod and I have done the first step in napalm's guide, bridging connections and I have lost volts. I'm only loading at 1.26 now and before the mods I was loading at 1.31. Any ideas? I'm a little confused here

i had the same problem when i bridged 1/2/3/4/11 and some others, with only this i had 1,26load, but then i bridged others and volts went down...thats why i decided to do the gpu mod with vr's is the best...

when bridging if voltage goes down youve increased resistance.. in other words unsuccessful modding

even if it looks like its bridged dont mean it is thus best to use solder or if you have to lead + solder

yeah mate understood that why i went for the real ones using vr's
but still OCP/OVP kicks when using over 1,4 and core over 821...im really lost...i want to change the 100k vr to a 100ohms one tuned to 10ohms...what do you think ? or maybe its bad soldered...but weird as it was kicking on 1,3 and was solved...im trying some combos with gputool and found it stable at 818/1782/2972 vgpu load 1,38 vmem load 2,21, this is faster that what i was trying before...but damn solid colours mate

Alright guys, i'm making some progress here. I redid the ocp w/ a fixed 100 ohm resis, per napalm's request and did the vgpu mod, step 3 in napalm's guide. I'm idling @ 1.31 load @ 1.36 Thing is, i'm still getting the red screens, Napalm, if possible, could you post a detailed pic of ur vdiff mod, I can't get the thing penciled past 600 ohms to save my life and I would rather do the hard mod I still do not have the connections bridged as in step one, I can't solder worth @#@# ordering a conductive pen so I think i'll be pushing 1.39v when I get that. Still can't figure why ocp is still kicking in oh well, any ideas?

    loading @ 1.38 now

you have to pencil really well to lower resistance because of the coating on the resistor

you may get it down.. you may get it to run 3d fine for few minutes/hours but all of the sudden you may not be able to boot at all.. its a pain in the arse.. very sensitive area to deal with not just that resistor

try a vr (set @ 700 ohm) @ resistor which should lower the resistance of the resistor to 350 ohm and see if that works.. it may not work

i just resorted to removing the damn thing and once i removed it i got higher voltage/performance per clock

step 3 works best after step 2 is done/once higher voltage is allowed

step 2 and 3 requires crotales ocp mod to reach full potential

unfortunately every vmod maybe except for the ocp mod youll hit either temp sense or voltage sense hence all the solid colors.. probably because of the 55nm process 285 uses but a very good voltage regulator would allow higher clocks/higher voltage/regulate voltage better despite the drawbacks of 55nm 285

of course im referring to air/water cooling.. if you pour ln2 less pain no need to worry about 10 diff vmods but the vmods help all kinds of cooling

Wassup guys, Napalm, I have done crotale's ocp mod already, i'm getting the volts that I should be getting, loading at 1.38 now, but i'm still getting the red screens. I thought crotale's mod would fix that . I'm going to solder a 700 ohm resis for the vdiff but will that help the ocp? Like I said i'm getting the volts u guys are hitting but I still can't push my core or shader clocks any higher. Oh well i'll get figured out hopefully.

My clocks are 742/1650/1386 and that's all I can get at the moment

man you should be doing 1485 mem after ocp mod not just 1386.. most likely youre hitting temp sense

you shouldnt be getting red screens @ slightly above those clocks unless for extreme loads @ stock cooler given the vgpu.. stock cooling ??

ocp mod doesnt fix everything.. you still got temp/volt senses to worry about

i want to make sure you guys do the ocp mod properly if/when not following crotales guide

yellow encircled red point to ground

note: use fixed 10 or 100 or 1000 ohm resistor whatever you guys are comfortable with

    Thank you my friend

Can I use then the 100ohms vr i bough and just leave it like that without tunning it ? or its a must to use a fixed res ?
