I'll tell ya ... I looked long and hard at that EVGA 4 Way Classified and 4 GTX 285 Classified deal they ran for a while. I decided that it would be difficult for me to keep it and my existing machines running in the long term (I can only afford to run so much) so decided to stick with the hardware I have for now. :dreaming: ... can you see that board stoked with a westmere tooling along at a cool 4.5GHz :sigh:
On a brighter note ... looks like 'doc may have conquered the ghost in his machines and is starting to return some serious numbers
I updated my AV yesterday and it suddenly decided to barf out acemd ... repeatedly ... both machines ...
I only lost about 1.5 WUs but that's enough in this crowd to make me concerned about getting me a slice.
Trying out some new settings on both cards (I'm a glutton for punishment).
My GTX295 responds really nice to more volts but I am having a tough time keeping the temps under control (fan at 86% temps at 83c).
Despite the small loss - you still got your pie.
Now the question is can you take on jetengdoctor's 8800's too...

To get a slice of the bottom you need 35k... So 2 Highly OCed 260's would get in once in a while.
An OCed 295 under water could also get you a slice according to JackOfAll's numbers... But 3 Solid GPUs would get you a stead slice I think...

I have a 295 that is currently pulling 37.5k and then a 285 that runs great for a while and then craps out again (only doing 15.5k but it should be doing 24k easy) ... I'm almost thinking there is a memory leak in the HERG WUs as that one kills me and once it starts it craps out all other WUs until I reboot. I have pulled back to <gasp> stock </gasp> on the 285 until I can figure out what is really going wrong.
So even a 295 OCed on air can get you some pie most days? huh... More powerful that I thought.
God I wanna see Fermi come to life... Or atleast get 58xx/59xx running!

(as for getting sick... not going to happen. Got a whole bottle of hand sanitizer and just got off for break today. After I get this poor soul on his flight in 3 hours and finish cleaning up, I'm going to a football game and then packing for home!)
