An update on the Zero Gravity Chamber.

It's late, and I'm very tired, so you're not going to hear much yapping out of me tonight. Fewer stupid jokes as well.. could be a good thing, right?

Here I'm marking off the bends for the chamber shell.

No turning back now... we're about to bend this thing for good.

I clamped through the windows here. I figured since they were hollowed out that it'd be the weakest point when the opposing force was applied to the brake. It worked pretty well.

Clamped down at a 1/2" bend and ready to go. This will be the back bend of the chamber that will be drilled and mounted to the inner case frame.

The first bend turned out very well.

    Positioning for the second bend.

Bending upright. This will be the chamber side that shows the Zero Gravity drives.

She's really starting to take shape now.

The fourth and final bend. We now have our finished Zero Gravity Chamber shell.

    Teaser.

I hope to have the shelves installed by middle of the week and the zero G drive mounts shortly after. I had expected to finish the drive mounts first, but to ensure the plexi window mount is the exact height it needs to be to center the drives in the window, I thought it was best to install the shelves first.

    Thanks for checking in!

I love the way you make everything suit the theme, even the pics.
It's just a really entertaining read, from start to finish.

Awesome concept, and I wish you all the luck, though you don't seem to need it.

Much appreciated, Laine! I can always use words of encouragement. Ambitious projects like this that span over a significant amount of time can take their toll on you, and reading encouraging comments always helps. So, thanks!

Just read the last couple of pages of your build. Love your new pics especially those of all your
fittings and the SSD mounted to the plexi. Looking at everything you've done up till now, you make it look so easy.
Top quality work there mate. Looking forward to your next updates.

Thanks, miller! Wish I could've taken some better pictures of the floating drive, but I was trying to hold the plexi window with one hand and snap the picture with the other and, well.. you have what you see.

Will be much easier to capture that effect once the windows are cut and mounted to the shelves. Soon, hopefully. This was the first key step.

Thank you, Red; I appreciate the compliments. It may look "easy," but as you can probably guess, and as I can also assure you, it's far from "easy".. lot of long nights spent measuring and carefully planning out the next step. Lot of time spent, especially when you document everything with pictures and commentary for several online communities, which I am. I do and always will consider Xtreme Systems as my home, though, so in most cases you guys will get updates before anyone else.

If I haven't stated it yet (can't remember if I did or not..) the next step will be to install the shelves in the chamber so that I can mount the pumps and drives and center in the windows. For that, the shelves will need to be bent and drilled, and the chamber shell will need to be drilled as well.

Onto the next step, and I hope to see you all there. We're getting closer.

Nice to see a plan come together, nice work there Buddy. Question, how will you be attaching the plex to the inside of the chamber?

Cool, man. Hopefully seeing all this in action now is making more sense of the earlier renders.

Thanks, Weevil. The plexi will attach to the chamber shelves by mounting with an L bracket into each shelf at the bottom. Then the top of the plexi will be braced by the top U bracket which will fit flush against the side of the chamber.

Close-up of the top U bracket that will brace against the chamber above the open window:

Top and bottom brackets from the side:

Notice how the top U mounting bracket is wider. This is so it reaches from the top of the plexi all the way to the chamber side and acts as a brace. The drives themselves will be right next to the open window in the chamber. There will be no plexi covering the chamber window. That will be open so that you could physically reach in and touch the drives.

Doubt it. I'm shooting for beginning of February. I think by 1/1, though, that the body will be mostly complete, and with a little luck everything will be painted by then.

There's a whole other realm of this project that I haven't revealed to anyone yet because it's still being developed. And it's going to take some more time to map out the details. If things go according to plan, this new twist will blow anything you guys have seen so far within this project completely out of the water. And I mean that with the utmost sincerity.

Can't wait. Not certain how you can blow us out of the water seeing you haven't even let us see the water so far.

Nice work there mate, good to see your moving in the right direction,
however at this pace you will end up with a sweet rig and the record for the longest work log.

Looking forward to the mid week update.

I think Charles and Sniipe still have me by quite a bit. Their worklogs were twice the size of this one thus far.

    Small update, guys.

I was able to get the shelves bent and installed so that I could test mount the pumps. The windows fit the XSPC res tops perfectly.
