Now remove the hype from this statement and basically it means new architecture at the least.

The problem with new architecture is that drivers take time to really take advantage (cue. 8800 series). Also the R600 and to a lesser extent the G200b (esp. the 280 GTX) prove that what looks good on paper doesn't guarantee incredible performance.
I've said it a million times. whether it's Ati (and i love their new cards and direction) or Nividia. The current gen and next gen will continue to improve gaming performance (from 150 fps today to 200 fps+ for most games). The real test will be DX11. Until then Nvidia (Dynamic Ambient Occlusion) and Ati (eyeinfinity) are inventing new ways to make your card crawl. Sadly this is because no game actually pushes these powerful cards at all.
