played with it a little today.. was able to lower vtt to 1.2 and cpu to 1.36, i ran blend for a little over a hour 200x20 @ 4.0.. without Vdroop load @ 1.38-9 on cpu.. cores 63,62,59,58 degrees.. with 1 512 hd4870 scored a little over 17k in 3dO6,, super pi passed all tests ran 10.456 second 1m.. i wish i had a long enough crossfire bridge so i could use both cards.. i am going to see if i can lower cpu volts any more and run blend longer..

I may be wrong but was my understanding that max vtt should be no higher than 1.35v, or maybe it is different for the i5-750?. I am running an 860 at 4.1ghz with 1.35vtt, doubt very seriously that it will hurt the chip.

i think i read somewhere that the i5 750 lynnfield 1.21 max vtt but ?? the evga p55 ftw sets mine at 1.30 vtt auto when using overclock dummy..

I'm running my 860 on the system in my sig @ 4.00Ghz Linpack stable with 1.31v. As usual there is a typical variation in different batches of cpus

tried for 4.4 at those volts and got bsod 5 tests into blend.. must need some more tweaking..

Going to keep it at 4.1ghz and risk the vtt at 1.35v. Guess I will find out eventually if it really does any damage to the chip. After the ud3p-q9650 rig overclocking hasn't been a lot of fun.

Hey guys. I am building a I5 750 rig. I am having trouble with motherboards tho. There are alot of motherboards I like but the foxconn socket issue is a little worrying. Does that issue still exist and is it a possibility if I build with a motherboard that has one?

What cpuz reads should be your actual vcore, will read lower than what you set in bios due to vrop/vdroop unless you enable LLC. I wouldn't use auto settings for vtt, the board will probably over volt it. It seems 1.21vtt is what Intel says is the max safe, that will limit overclocking a bit.

I was able to get 4300mhz to run 7 passes of linx but after that i get errors, using 1.45 vcore load, 1.4vtt and 1.175pch, temps were ok but had heavy ac on the rad.

Those numbers seem to be pretty consistent with most people who run near 4.2GHz. What is your VTT running at?

Make sure you run Prime95 for a couple of hours to verify it's stable (and watch your temps). The lower VCore and VTT the better (IMO)....many people run out of spec with no issues at all....With my i5, I would try to keep VTT at 1.25 or under (right now I'm at 1.15, but I'm also only clocked at 3.9GHz).

From my understanding, Vdroop is the voltage drop on VCore when running at or near 100%. In your bios, you should be able to enable LoadLine to compensate for Vdroop.

In regards to CPU-Z, it really depends on how you configured your bios. For example, it could read lower than your set VCore voltage if have your CE states enabled. It also could be affected by your enabling or disabling your LoadLine.

Again, I'm not an expert at all this, but hopefully I've helped answer a few questions.

It's my understanding that some of the higher-end boards from EVGA don't use the foxconn sockets, but I couldn't tell you which ones exactly. I know many of the P55 boards from ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte have been using them. Again, the problem seems to only surface when extreme overclocking is done. I would think that anything at 4.2GHz or less wouldn't see an issue unless you needed to really over volt the system to get it there.

You can try contacting the manufacturers to see if they know which of their boards are still using the foxconn sockets. My Gigabyte board does have the foxconn socket, but I don't believe it will be an issue since I'm running it less than 4GHz and low voltage.

Not sure; how can I tell? Ill check later and see if it displays the auto. I tried a vtt of 1.5 @ 4.3ghz but it seems that may be too small. I'm also gonna try to lower my vcore at 4.2 and generally stabilize before moving to 4.3.

with a 5850 oced to 1020 i get about 25200 score in 3d mark 06. FYI

Download Everest or Cpuid Hardware Monitoring program, they will read your vtt.

i use a maximus iii formula and my vtt doesn't go in the yellow until 1.36, so i'm pretty sure you're safe at 1.35.

Nice scores loften!

With the goal of trying to keep my Vcore voltage low, I am able to manage 4GHz (191x21) using only 1.2375v Vcore and 1.17v VTT wihout my temps going above 70c full load (air)....and yes, it's a nice day in CA today.

I also previously had a E8500 (not clocked as high as your old CPU, but was very stable at 4.2GHz without temps going through the roof).

I'll probably stick around the 4GHz range for now. It's plenty fast enough for me (for video encoding, games, etc) and I'd rather error on the side of safety than speed.

Grossmeister, i think that its in your and his CPU. None of cpus are the same. Try to overclock his cpu on your board and find out.

I think you got this wrong! He has MY CPU, the exact same CPU, on his Gigabyte, and he needs less voltage! And trust me, I tried ALL kind of settings, different types of voltages in all variations - I tested it for 2 month now, and he need 0,04V less within HOURS?? Must be the mainboard!!

I still think, that every CPU is different. It can be mainboard, but it doesnt mean every "asus" mboards are bad. Maybe he just got good piece of gigabyte mobo, or you got a bad piece of asus. Gigabytes are good too...
