    Just got my New ATI 5970 Waterblock in from DangerDen. going to be putting this in my Dual Boreas Waterchilling Rig Tonight!

    The block I have is 1st rev.. The VRM are getting little Warm.. I have the final rev tuesday..

    to answer some question

    I put the voltage to 1.25 Vcore and it runs 1000mhz No issues.. GPu core where 45/ 49C running Furmark for 2hrs.

    The Card overclocks nicely but when you turn up the juice on Vcore the VRM Get HOT!!!! The Final REV of the block going to have cool water going over the VRM..

    The VRM cannot get cooler with this block as the water is so far away from them... Think about it

    The max stable overclock i've been able to get with the 5970 is 955 on the core, 5270 on the memory. I've only got an Air cooler at the moment though, expecting my waterblock any day now Impressive results there Evilclocker! Are you finding the limits or just playing it safe?

    Its because manufacturers focus more on the core temps, as they are the most critical part of the card, so they (nearly) always have better cooling than the VRM's for the same water block. My temps sit under 50 at full load (same card and waterblock but a Koolance ERM K2U 5 loop watercooling setup)

    I wish Danger Den would stop using the roughed up finish on their water blocks, I've got Tietons on my 280's and every place I've ever touched with my finger has left a permanent print, I can't find anything that will shine them up again. In hindsight, I wish I would have used rubber gloves to install them.

    What I have Found out is the VRM Get HOT Fast When you Overclock! My Card Runs 1000Mhz on the Core 1250 on The Ram.. but when you fireup Furmark.. The VRM Gets 85C Which is Way cooler then Aircooled.. DangerDen has a new Rev of the Block I will have next week to have water cooling the VRM Also.

    I found that 1.25 Vcore is need to get 1000mhz. Keep in mind I Running a Dual Boreas WaterChiller.. My Water Stays at 20C

    What kind of rad/pump do you think would be best suited for this waterblock? I'm thinking about a XSPC RX120 http://www.pccasegear.com/UserFiles/xspcrx120_2.jpg radiator on a single loop dedicated just for the GPU. Something like the BFG did with the GTX295 H20C. What do you think?

    Huge change of mind from the guy who used to screw aluminum plates on his blocks to cool VRMs

    GPU staying at 40/40 I am running it at 5870 Speeds .. needs 1.2v on GPU .. VRM are not the bad either.. I have new Version of block 1st of next week

    Except then that was enough. Now with the 58/59 cards the VRMs are really a limiting factor. It wont be the gpu temp thats holding you back, its the VRMs
    So the one with the best VRM cooling will be the winner(unless the internals look like Bitspower FC blocks)

    I'm running two MCW-60 with a pentium II heatsink that I took a hack saw to cooling my VRMs. They are definately the limiting factor. I have 950/1250 @ 1.225v (can maybe go lower) and my VRMs hit 90c in Unigine Heaven. I can't run Furmark for more than 20 seconds or they pass 110c. Don't know how high they will go because I'm not willing to test. Not sure I want to cough up the money for a full cover, but I need to do something better than this. The GPU cores don't hit 50c though.

    I'm thinking I may get some copper tubing and sand one side flat, and hook it up to my loop. Should at least be better than air. Any opinions? Suggestions?

    i was thinking a while back about using copper pipe to make a loop that goes over the RAM/VRMs. not sure how bad it would be to solder a copper pipe to copper heatsinks. give that the whole project could be done for under 20$ it wouldnt be a waste at all if you had to do it for each new gpu you buy.

    the only thing stopping me is that i have no idea how well the heat would transfer from the source to the sinks through the solder and into the copper pipe.

    but hey, if someone wasnt to do a cheap mod for their 700$ video card, i sure wont stop them.

    i also wonder if the UNISink that swifty makes will even work well enough for a 5970. i havnt paid too much attention, but im pretty sure they didnt release it yet, or if they even can.

    I like these two blocks the best (for vrm cooling)



    I think they just need to widen the block to the right a little more and stretch it out slightly past the VRMS on the right edge. That way they can get some water flowing directly over the top of them. As it stands right now, the flow is close, but not directly over the top. I still dont know how flush the contact is on the bottom, but I'm assuming it's the same on both of them.

    Ya, the heat transfer is my main concern. I don't think solder should be an issue. AFAIK it transfers heat very well. What i'm not sure about is the heat transfer from the copper tube into the water. I'm also not sure how I'll do the three VRMs between the two cores. My mounting plates leave little space so I would have to have the flow perpendicular to the VRMs.
