First Modern Warfare 2 p2p virus

Yep.. it seems that they have figured out how to spread viruses using MW2's p2p architecture
This could potentially turn very nasty, as each server can spread it to every client, who spread it to more people when they become the server.

So far it seems that only the PC version is affected

I just figured the p2p would be an easy vehicle for cheating. This is much worse.

I'm glad I didn't buy it yet. This is sad as I was looking forward to playing this game. The makers should have left well enough alone.

How did you determine that? It sounds like they are p2p fans.

Whoever came up with the virus will definitely make a bundle from their fresh bot-net. Definitely a smart way to hit a large population of PCs very quickly

Soon you will have to pay for that virus too. Just wait and see. It is why I chose not to bother buying/pirating or playing the game. They can kiss my ass! ....err wait....They can kiss your ass!

You know what would be even more funny?
If they use this botnet to make a DDoS attack on IW website/infrastructure

It is exactly what I would do right after dumping the money made in an offshore account for a seafood business that does not exist.

Ya this is what was needed after non dedicated servers ppl who bought the game have yet another hurdle...

Hell maybe they made the virus so that ppl stop complaining about lack of deticated servers and instead start complaining about virus attacks

ROFL, the fail-train of Modern Warfail 2 keeps going.
I nominate the game as the joke of the year.

Oh, great. I guess I'll have to start playing in a sandbox now.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Unfortunately I have to assume that Activision / IW are happy about it, lets face it, its just another argument for them to go console exclusive.

Anyway, I'm happy I didn't buy that game and no, I could not even be bothered pirating it.

after all the they did with mw2 i think we can conclude that both sides would profit if IW would just stop the pc market. let's face it: they destroy more than they do good for the pc community, so no big loss in my opinion. with mw2 the cod franchise is dead for me anyways.

All the hoopla aside, I've found MW2 gameplay quite fun. I'm getting used to the narrow FOV, and the net effect of the matchmaking system is essentially nothing for me since I always used to play random servers in COD4 anyway. With Internet connections being as fast as they are now days, P2P hosting for 12-18 players is quite reasonable. I think I also like the slightly smaller matches. The maps are still quite large, and I less frequently find myself the victim of people I never get to see.

The only thing I think I'm going to miss is custom maps.
