At least it wasn't a laptop... yeah, I reassembled the whole thing and THEN realized that I forgot to lock the socket...

You're almost there now, keep at it. I highly recommend getting an AXXIMMPRO or AXXIMMADV management card, being able to remotely monitor temps and shutdown/power up a rig remotely is great stuff. IPMI is free and you don't have to install any foolish agent services on your OS (EDIT: at least on Linux you don't, I'm not sure about Windows but you should be able to get the stuff for free from the Intel download page). I see the cards go for $10-$25 on eBay.

Oh, and welcome to club Sammy.

Ooh, this is relevant to my interests. One of mine will def'ly be a remote file server. What's the major difference b/w the two units? Do I need to pay attention to the model number?

I read this and then felt like a POS.
I should have mentioned that the cpu's on these use a small screwdriver to lock in place using the screw on the chipset..

It took me a bit to figure out why I could not get the cpus in the sockets. Dave was a big help to me in getting the font panel connections setup. I was brave enough to call him. Just glad to have someone like him to help out when needed.

No, I have an international calling plan..Like 4 cents a minute..
Haven't look for sammys lately, just memory..
Also been so involved with this "new" system that I haven't done much else..

I did the same thing when i put my first one together-thought the board was bad then went onto the nest one till I saw the screws! Just didn't feel like taking it apart-but you gotta do what you have to do! Speaking of Sossaman's I need to get downstairs and restart those babies, the power went out here a couple of days ago and they are not on!

What bolt pattern does Sammy use again? 604 or 771?

Because I found these for 771 but I'm guessing it isn't that bolt pattern.

604 and 771 are the same spacing..
heights are different..
Sammy just uses those special stepped alum HS
