I wouldn't hold my breath, especially with delayed GT300.

Release will be before christmas, but with the current shortage of 58x0 products don't expect many 59x0 cards to hit the stores this year.

Yes the card is long, yes it is a challenge to cool it, but if you don't want that just buy a 58x0 card instead they are more than fast enough, the 59x0 cards are just for bragging rights, marketing material (aka we got the bigger one) and people running multiple 30" screens.

Possibly, I don't know much more than a couple of people have seen full speed cards.

Since HD5970 seems to be a dual Cypress GPU with HD5850 clocks, I wouldn't count with a higher than 300W TDP even with the 10% extra SPs and TMUs... of course, it could be for different reasons, and we can't know it yet, but I don't understand why they say that is "probable".

On a side note, I hadn't seen the size of the card previously (13.5" = ...34cm??!). I find it excessive. The ATX form factor is 9.6" (24.4cm) wide, and the extended ATX is 13" (33cm). I really think that videocard manufacturers should stick to ATX measures for the core of their line up, and up to E-ATX for some enthusiastic products that may need it. Nowadays, most high end videocard solutions are E-ATX (even when they don't measure the whole 13", since they surpass the ATX form factor). But surpassing the E-ATX form factor is unacceptable, in my opinion. There is no case to hold it except by chance, not even E-ATX cases (it could fit, indeed it probably will, but it doesn't have to). That's absurd, IMO.
13.5" is from the edge of the DVI connector to the edge of the shroud. The actual PCB and the room that it will take up in your case is less than 12", ~11.6in as I have said before.
Measuring my 4850 the same way, it would be 10.25" instead of the actual 9"...

I made this for the length, normalized to the 26.67cm pcb of the 4870X2. I made it before the cards came out, so don't know how accurate it will be on 5970 length. I put the zero-mark at the start of the pcb, not including the mounting, backplate, or extruding dvi-connectors (which probably adds 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch overall). Measured where the plastic shroud vents stop at.

If the price difference between 5970 and 5870 CF will remain significant, it'll sell. Otherwise due to the lower clocks and most probably lower oc'ing headroom it'll fail...

well two Benjamins is a sizeable amount of cash, probably more like three if AMD keeps their word and ZZF overpriced it.

Looks very intressting since the 5970 is pretty pricy.

Wow the specs are disappointing. The clock speed is even lower than that of the leaked engineering sample (which was 750/1000). AMD assured us it was not representative of final performance. What they didn't mention is final performance would actually be lower.

    Little test here!

Yeah, cause OCing the card is so hard.

I bet OC'ing the card under water will be very nice indeed! Just need to make sure there is enough voltage. Stock cooling....yeah no wonder they have the clocks down. Especially with the length of this card. Just a stupid little fan at the end ta-boot too to try and cool everything. Yeah I am actually surprised it's not clocked lower. I guess they are throwing acceptable heat at 725 with lousy cooling.

not quite sure your even allowed to call going form 725 to 850Mhz overclocking, at that point most of us on here would think your still underclocked.

im wondering if the VRMs were built strong enough to support 2x real 5870s or if they were built to handle just 300W

Let's see how things pan out. There are some fullspeed boards out there right now.
