why don't you go and try a 950 or 975 and see how much further it goes against your 920, this has nothing to do with this tread...

I think these figures are limited by their design and process used to build the processor.

Right now is 920 (if you find a good batch), but if you can wait a bit, 930 would be your best bet.

TO GET THE FULL BENEFITS OF C3, THE MOTHERBOARD NEEDS A BIOS UPDATE! A lot of these sites are testing it without the new BIOSes. The Northbridge has p-states now that are obviously not in use (as the NB clock is running full speed) in all the tests I've seen. We should see even more power savings coming.

Has it been confirmed yet that the NB can be "cooled" with CnQ in idle? If so this will be 1337sauce cause I could change NB multi while booted

According to this BKDG, "NB P-states can be dynamically controlled by system software via MSRC001_001F". Either AMD Overdrive or some driver will allow control of the NB. Also, IIRC, didn't the first couple of Overdrive releases allow you to chance the NB multiplier while booted? AMD removed that feature for some reason.

It's nice to see people bashing each other on amd stuff, but dont forget that we're not amd w-ores and being paid for ----'n'---- amd's ---- ---.

First, it's nice to see AMD's even bother to deploy sme C3 revision and all that cause original 965BE 140W launch passed by without any real attention. Duh yet another squeezed and oced amd uP for a hefty price. Probably we wouldn't see it if C2 wasnt such a late hog after all with a hefty price i might add. If they had C2 when released 9 month ago had all that features, proper power saving C1E features and relaytivly good TDP they even might explain price position of their old 940BE (3.0GHz, DDR2 only) against i7 920. And we now see how they deceive us when HT disabled i5 750 core (2.66GHz as i7 920) has same performance of 965BE and under same TDP of todays i5 750. Not to mention that HT on four cores relatively gives intel boost for which tAMD need six cores at same frequency (not in fact 50% HT efficiency but Nehalem further advanced Intels architecture CPC after AMD finally reach intel's old Q9000 series CPC with their PhenomII)

Second, it would be a sure devil agreement for me if all C3 BEs would reach 4.2GHz @1.400V (it would meant 1.456 when all enthusiastic boards overclocks a "little" under load) and not only some of NDAs preview ES

Third, AMD finally making money with their Athlon II X4 600 series and in fact selling poor performing AthlonII X2 which shoul be called virtually abandoned Sempron name (140 really shouldnt be counted TWO YEARS AFTER AMD announced they planning Dual Core Semprons we still didn't saw until today). These Regors are really poor ocing, maybe just like other C2, but they definitely dont have needs for complex layering needed for huge on die L3 (40% die size) so they're really much cheaper to produce for damn than simple die cuts of full Deneb core. Theyfor sake of marketing equipped all PIi with 6MB L3 cache when we saw they dont really need more than 4MB and poor Athlons dont have not even as much as 2MB L3 and we all know how amd didnt bother to compete with intels unified cache architecture

Fourth and most important thing that mostly went unnoticed that AMD discontinued whole line of C2 based uP and even x4 Athlon based after this introduction, and with this 965BE rereleas they just buying time with their as usual month release cycle, and now releasing actually no new product, just somthing C2 revision should be from it's start thatthey hadnt so much issues on 65nm and TLB problems and waiting for B3 revision just 18 month ago. Theyreally needed this C3 and this is final product something like F3 series and only Thuban if they decide to release it and they'll probably need to would be an upgrade. Hopefully not just a shrik upgrade from it's Istanbul uP on 32m process. Cause they really wont do any r&d on it just they didnt on G1/G2 and they messed up a lot except always good power saving and mony saving for them cause hexacore wont came without cost at near 330mm2

I wonder the same, what kind of twisted magic amd use that its cheapest Athlons can reach 3.2GHz @1.200V and with +0.050V reach 3.36GHz (some 5%) but even with 1.55V they wont scale above 3.75GHz stable in P95, yep few of them can reach 3.9Ghz at 1.5V but thats 2ppt or less
