Been putting in some of the fans, to get an idea of what cable management will be needed. I have an Aerocool 2000, which I want to hook the fans up to in groups of 3. It says max of 6 watts per channel, so we shall see
I need to make up some 3 to 1 wiring harnesses, had planned to call in my store on the way back from shopping, but we ended up on the other side of town, so that will have to wait. Considered just splicing them all together, but decided against it for 2 reasons, firstly would be a pain if a fan broke and secondly wasn't too sure if it would affect the warranty.
I bought several different fan grills to see what I liked the look of. I really liked the silver powder coated tribal flames, made by Kikboxes. I saw they did a 3 x 120 in a similar and complimentary style. So, I thought I'd use 3 of the triples and have 2 singles. As you can see here on the back of the case
I love the effect it gives, like the glowing bottom of a fire with flames coming up
However, they have made it to fit a variety of case styles, so the extra 'border' round it makes it impossible to put one on top of the other on the front of my caseI also don't like the look of those extra holes, trouble is if I cut the top & bottom off, I can see the powder coating chipping and at the very least having plain exposed metal.
I've decided to send back one of the triples and get 3 singles for the front, thereby giving the effect of rising flames.
Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of the excess top and bottom?
Here are some pics with the fans on
Camera doesn't have a remote, so nigh on impossible to get a sharp pic with no lighting, even on a tripod
This is a view of the fans mounted along with the hard drive bays, from the front of the case
These Enermax fans are great as they use clear wiring, so no need to sleeve right back to the motor
The GT's came pre-sleeved. Although of a better quality than the basic stuff, not a scratch on MDPC, but with ugly wires slowing from the motor, it all had to come off
Hopefully will have time this week to make up some wiring harnesses, and see if the Aerocool has any guts![]()

Well, it's been a while since I've added to this logAlthough I have been working away at it!
With the MM cases having nowhere to hide anything, wire management has been my 1st priority, especially from the 2 radiators. I also want everything easy to take apart if something fails. So that instantly knocks out the idea of splicing the wires together.
I am using the Feser shrouds, and they come with LED's, in their native state they look like this
6 clunky molex cables definately needed taming into something neater! After much head scratching, I came up with this plan.
Firstly strip the exisiting shrink off them
To get the LED's in the holes how I want them, they have to pretty much be at 90 degrees, already snapped one of them, and not much there to re-solder. So having to be ultra careful now
Using a male/female molex in the middle I devised this set-up
I am still working on the end one, but it will probably be on another joint molex. Was planning on having it like the end one, but it just didn't seem to lay right.
Here is one of the rads, in all it's naked glory
Here are it's clothes
I decided to put the rads in the case for a dummy run, so they are just propped in place, also I didn't want to risk damaging the LED's, so they aren't attached.
It's amazing how photographs seem to show every tiny little flaw in sleevingBut as these splitters will probably change before the end, they will serve a purpose for now! Hubby has already modded his clamps, as he noticed they were damaging the sleeve
Also on the final revision of them, we will use the sata shrink
Hubby has been cutting his teeth on sleevingStarted doing some pretty nice work, like on the Scythe fan controller cables
Posted a close-up on the sleeving thread.....don't like to double post pictures!
For the fan controller on the rad fans, I'm planning on using an Aerocool 2000. I tried it with a 3 way splitter, so I would just use on channel for each rad, but it didn't like that, but it seems quite happy with 2 fans on each channel. I hope it works out, as I really like the front USB/audio/eSATA features it has.
Here is a front view with both the Aerocool and Scythe in, the latter will control the 4 rear fans, with the upper rear fan going on the MB.
Another thing which is holding me back is the ever shortning evenings, my camera is not good in low light, so have to wait for the weekends to take some pictures.
Once I put the finishing touches to the LED cables, it's time to start looking at case lighting, pump cabling, on/off switches etc.....the list goes on and on! As once again, it all involves cables that neet to be as tidy as possible!

Finished off the LED's last night and ended up breaking one, right at the plastic, so no chance of re-soldering it
Also found another not working, so going to have to order some new ones and then hope they are the same color of blue, else I will have to replace them all.
I like daylight to work in, so now the evenings have closed in, will only do much at weekends.

Have to admit I have been really bad about updating my log
So time for an update!
Mounted front rads, wiring and cabling will need some more consideration, but now I have the lovely MDPC-x clips I can do more in that department
How the front looks with all the grills on
Although having plenty of room in this extended Ascension, the length of the hoses is not my favorite.
I'd previously run 2 separate loops, CPU and chipsets on one, GPU's on the other. With the T3 I am going to see how they perform combined. I just could not get the hoses right doing the CPU & chipsets, so have decided to go CPU on one inlet and chipsets & GPU's on the other.
Trying to cut down on excessive lengths of hose, I have a question! I plan to put my 2 x 285's in parrallel. Can I go both in and out of the same card? Or is the 2nd card going to get a severe lack of flow?
Liking to take pictures outside in the sunshine, here are the blocks, although the fittings might well get changed round a bit.

Hubby got a bit sidelined from his sleeving 'duties' by making this
But I finally got him in line to do some SATA cables
Realized my love of natural sunlight does not bode too well with trying to get a good shot of the sleeving
I stripped down my CPU and both of my GPU blocks to clean out all the gunk/residue, so will have to make up a dummy loop to make sure they are all sealed well.
Going to mount the motherboard to finalize all the hose lengths, then it is a case of getting hubbyto do some more sleeving!!!!

Wow, did your husband make that bag? Nice work - no wonder you have him doing your sleeving.
Ty Shazza! Yes leatherworking is his main 'art' for now......pressing hard on the sleeving! On top of that he is a highly skilled welder and metal fabricator, let alone a decent mechanic. Looking at my maze of hoses he instantly came up with some suggestions, so off to the auto shop tomorrow!

Congratulations on an sweet build so far.
As to the bottom fan grill, you could take it to a sheet metal workshop and ask them to trim the top and bottom in there guillotine.
This will give a sharp, square cut.
However, it would be a good idea to cover it with masking tape to protect it, just let the guys know to handle it with kit gloves.
Then just touch up the cut edges with some paint (like the small tins for model cars and stuff) and you should be sweet.
Also to the question as to put your 2 x 285's in parrallel.
I am only guessing, however I feel that the pressure in the tube and cards will be equal, as water will follow the parth of least resistance, there for equaling out.
BUT you really need to find out from someone who knows there stuff, mayby Skinnee or Vapor would be an excellent place to start.
Looking forward to seeing your next move
Thanks kdtiger
I'm still debating now the grill is on if it would be better trimmed or not, finding a fab shop round here is not so easy, let alone one that would do a decent job
Going to see how the temps pan out on the cards, got all the hoses worked out last night, now to try and get the lighting right. Got some Feser black UV tube, but under UV light it turns blue, so now I need to see if white light will look better than UV.
