I do really hope at least 80% of pc pre-orders get cancelled before monday so Infinity gets a huge pressure...

I can live with a delayed release if it means we get the game the way it should be released.

I still want the game, so am gonna download it first, if I like it, than I buy it.

But such stupidity from IW is crazy, these guys who work there are so out of touch with players it's a crime, don't these guys EVER do market research, I would image they are gamers themselfs, so how do they get away with doing this crap, it's mad.

Dedicated servers are non-player hosted servers. Its a proper server rented from a server hosting company running on a high bandwidth, low latency connection. Its up 24/7 and usually managed by a clan or a game community web site, and of course the hosting companies themselves.

In other words Dedicated servers offer a revenue stream for 3rd party companies which helps extend the life of a game. Take that away and none but the IW has anything to gain from the game, which only leaves them with their customers... good luck to them...

I never intended on playing this game on PC as I will admit that I'm more of a console guy now. However, I do know what it means to have dedicated servers. They're almost a necessity for big named titles to have proper online play. I really can't seen any intended logic in doing this.

Well, no actually. I canceled my pre-order and I will be downloading a pirated version to play the single player now. And I intend to hand out free copies to all my friends and tell them not to buy it.

And there will likely be a good player base for the pirated version. Pirates can only play on other pirate servers, and if you look at FEAR 2, another fully Steam integrated game with no dedicated server, a majority of servers are pirated.

and for the actual players, more important is the level of customization available when you control the servers

restricting certain weapons, perks... and custom content

I want to support PC players, but I cant do that while they cry "More, More, More" Take what IW gives you, and live with it. We want you in the Boards to iscuss the game, but it now seems like it's a Giant Console vs PC vs IW deathmatch. Cant we go back to the usual spam topics instead of the dedicated servers? I mean, if anything, the Console people should be complaining. Besides. I doubt this was a decision IW made for s and gigles, they have it all worked out. And I guarantee you will regret canceling the best FPS ever made... I mean, No ded servers... That's game breaking! You cant make moon gravity maps, or kick people :-O Thats gamebreaking! No, removing ded servers makes everything equal, fair, and removes risks for hacking... Oh and PC players now have prestige mode... Your welcome
    /end rant
to suggest that P2P has less lag than ded server is ludicrous

They ARE gamers, but they arent PC gamers, and their paychecks dictate where the game goes. This will probably ultimately be the end of IW, just as it has been for so many development studios, like dynamix and clancore.

Hm.... apparently, I got banned from their forum... the thing is, I only posted about the fact that it was worrying that IW had lost so much faith in PC gamers and decided to go the console way... And I apparently got banned for that... smells like huge damage control going on since they know they screwed up. Well, seems like I wont be spending a penny on their next game!

you gotta understand the console gamers posting on that forum are between the ages of 12-16, they dont even understand the concept of PC gaming let alone the impact it has on the company or the community, they are just trolling the hell out of the forum.

I'd say DLC / micro transactions are more a symptom of an industry full of unhealthy business models than the actual problem. Companies try these things because they are desperate for short term profit in order to cover increasing cost budgets (the real problems)...

Try Nexuiz. It's a very good Quake 3 style FPS
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

There is also more to that, if you take into account the lost sales for dedicated servers, rented boxs, clan sites, hosting and all that.

This is snowball, it's going to get big.

Ive had evey console since the very first nintento in 1987, console games serve a different purpose then PC games, each platform is played in a very different and distinctive way. Racing games, fighting games, side scrolling games, things like that, i love playing those on a console, as well as many other titles, but FPS games, strategy games, those are what i play on the PC.

oh its a huge slap in the face to the companys that rent dedicated servers, let me tell you, those companys were probably waiting to score on the 25000+ servers that would have popped up on MW2.
