    very nice work there !

I am looking to do the same with my current Dtek blocks which are on 4870s and was wondering if they will work ok with the 5870 cards.

I wonder if the heatsinks are necessary at all if you have fans blowing across (my current setup on my 4870s has no sinks at all with same YL fans breezing across and never had a single issue in last 12 months)

Your better off having the sinks. They move the heat down away from the chips.

Yes, that will work. The mounting orientation of the holes on the 4870 and 5870 are the same.

The smalls sinks are these here -

If you have airflow you dont NEED the sinks. I prefer to add them though.
