    so i dont get it, did that tractor blow up,, like big time?

    how'd you like to have your head under the hood of that and then say "ok honey start it up".... and then that happens!!

    lol so a few things, first off thanks for the great comments, i lol'ed

    But its not a tractor, its a steam engine (not that you'd know just saying) so what they do is, hook it up to a very large belt that drives a fan, that puts load on the engine making it work really hard.

    Then once they are at a good temperature of the engine they open up the door and throw in sawdust, this causes the saw dust to burn almost instantly and because its so light it floats and turns to amber's. What you see in this picture is a longer exposure with the sawdust coming out the top and the front, however because the steam engine is brand new the front door isn't quite "set" into place so sparks came out the front (when they really shouldn't). Its not really good for a newly build steam engine to take this much of a beating but the owner loves doing it and if he has to rebuild it again, that just means more time to play with his toy. He has several steam engines and tractors, that one is worth about 500k

    Hope that helps to understand it a little

    Model = Nikon D90
    Lens = Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 Macro HSM

    Camera was on auto for this one, should have raised ISO and increased shutter speed. Ah well, didn't turn out so blurry anyways.

    Ok so this shot was INCREDIBLY hard to get just right, I didn't have a tripod and there wasn't enough light... I spent close to 3 hours trying to get it, and I still was learning my camera at the time... (my old camera)

    actually being a farm boy i knew it was, or rather figured it was a steam engine but because of the blade style tires, and the dirt in the tires vs. rail wheels, i figured it was used as a tractor or at least some sort of a PTO (power take off) engine.
    (not to mention it looks like farm land around there)

    but either way that picture kicks arse man, i love it.

    Thanks! Tripods help a LOT you can set your exposure (bulb) much longer and step away and then as soon as it hits turn off a bulb shot.

    absolutely not, just buying a camera and cheap lenses wont yield the results i think people look for when they are buying a dSLR, they see alot of the pictures posted here and those are not done with cheap lenses (typically) those are done with $500, $800, $1200 lenses and some photoshop skills to clean it up if things didnt turn out exactly perfect.

    i dont like people calling others noobs at photography, picture taking is not like computers and overclocking, it is a skill, a true skill, with a massive learning curve and alot of patience required on the part of the photographer.

    sorry dude, i think you mis-understood me, i'm calling no one but myself a noob at photography, which i would be if i decided to get a dslr. my comment "a what?" was in regards to you saying "a p-n-s" - no bad intentions was there with my post.
