I just want to show that the 5750 was not tested under the same platform. Check the '06 scores and the system details in the screenshots.

    5750.... 4GB ram, Windows 7, E8400 3Ghz.

    GTS 250 ... 3 GB ram, windows vista, E8400 3Ghz.
    \

For HD 4770 and 4850 it;s the same setup, 3GB ram, vista, E8400 3 Ghz.

About the results, it outperforms all of them and since it's not the 5770, i think it does well at outperforming all the previous midrange cards, probably trading blows with 4870, though that remains to be seen with proper testing/game results.

The 5770 should be a very interesting card, over 4890/under GTX285, for just 200.

I dont want it for the gaming. I want it for an HTPC. I need a low power card that can do Blu Ray 8.1 audio over HDMI. Simple FTW.

thanks for joining us. not to throw hate at all, but 3dmark06 is horrible at comparing GPUs being so cpu limited, which i think is taking away from how good this card really is.

the review/preview originally linked thought the 5770 would take over for the 4890, which i strongly feel is possible given the difference in sharders and speed. but its hard to believe that with current information showing these cards being quite low. i hope the whole 5000 line get 20% stronger with new cat drivers by end of the year.

Then you'll have to wait a bit more. Redwood is a Q1 product.

    Glad to be here

I am thinking exactly the same. A card with such good specs is obviously bottlenecked by that stock E8400.

Even a I7 can sometimes bottleneck a single 5870, a core 2 duo at stock surely will bottleneck a 57xx card.

Any idea if this thing is faster than a 4890?

    Windows7 64 bit can use the 4GB - Vista 32bit can not.

Edit: Now I see what you mean. The 5750 Vantage score was taken under Windows7 64bit. The 5750 3DMark06 score under Windows7 64bit and VISTA. All the others in VISTA as GPU-Z states.

    5770? I don't think it is. I think maybe 1% faster than a 48701GB. Could be wrong.

4890: 800 SPs and 850 Mhz (or 1000 Mhz for some, but i wont count them)
    5770: 1120 SPs and 750 Mhz
but it gets about half the GB/s on the ram, so i think sometimes it will be right with the 4890, others it will lag behind by 10%ish.

Exactly... Not the ram quantity is the issue, it's just that the comparison uses different test systems.

    Lots of misinfo...
The card in the test/bench was a 5750.

    5750- 800SPs, 40TMUs, 16ROPs, 128bit, 1150mhz GDDR5 and 700mhz core.

Which it should be performing a bit better than a 4850.

    The 5770 is supposedly still a Juniper w/ 1120SPs, 56TMUs and 128bit. I haven't heard any confirmation on clocks but I would guess ~800mhz core and 1200-1250mhz GDDR5.

thats a BIG difference between the two. then i guess the 5750 is doing its job just fine if its really only 800SPs

    Yep, performing between a 4850 and 4870 for $149.
    The 5770 is supposedly performing around a 4890, I am guessing between a 4890 and GTX285, for $199.

This chip would have been a total killer if it had a 192bit bus.

Yeah it is pretty bad, like the coolers that came on the RV740.
The 5770 has the better looking dual slot rear exhaust cooler that was the reviewer edition for the RV740.

    So 5770 is a Juniper but 5750 isn't? What a mess...

And 5770 is going to be the only Juniper card then?

Or am I getting something wrong? (Probably since it's all strange this way... is 5750 a crippled Juniper and then everything fits perfectly in my head? Sorry, I am absolutely thick now...)

This depends alot on the game, settings and the situation in game. We don't really know how much the 128-bit bus will bottleneck the card, and under which settings.

Using AF will be expensive though, IF the bandwidth is a bottleneck. So there could be some real gains by using 4x or 8x over 16x AF in terms of performance. Sacrificing the IQ of course.

I believe that HD58xx cards are based on Cypress while HD57xx are Juniper. 181mm˛ and 330 mm˛ difference seems quite big for 1120 -> 1600 SPs.

5750 is definitely a Juniper, we see a ~181mm2 IHS under the heatsink.
I have seen a couple different people confirm the 5770 is also a Juniper, so until I hear/see different I am going to have to believe them.

IHS? I know what an IHS is, but when did ATI start using them, and why?

Definitely IHS is not what he meant. :P Didn't someone calculate the Juniper core of HD5750 to be ~183 mm˛ based on the pictures behind the link in first post?

Yeah, IHS was a bad choice since they don't use it.
Would the package be a better?
