I just installed the default cooler, and switched back to the EK again, and its defenitelly the EK.

    Whats the deal?
I have all the spacers except for the back ramsinks as there aren't any for them.

Do yous guys know the cause? is this documented?

    thanks
Are you using the paper washers on the backside of the card? Is your card bent? Any pictures?

yes, paper washers on all the small ones. But not on those long screws for the L shaped heatsinks, it didn't bring enough washers. Not bent, some small curvatures, nothing S shapped. I don't have camera right now. sorry.

So right now without that screw I removed, It seems ok so far. I also loosened some scews. The downside is that one of the VDDC slave regulators hits 75ºc while the others cruise around 50 to 60ºc

I have to find a plastic tool to tweak the screws while the card is powered on. Full cover blocks scare me to death lol

Man I love the EK full face blocks. My 3870X2 never gives me a problem. Skipping over the 4870X2 and will more then likely grab the 5870X2 off the shelf right away. Also I noticed your running PCProbeII from Asus on a windows 7 machine (or at least I think its Win7). I had freezing problems with that and ever since I turned it off the freezing stopped. It would also randomly alert me that something was a ridiculously high voltage and then go back again. Damn thing is near useless.

So I added duct tape to every hole and every screw, and I replaced the thermal pad used on the crossfire chip (the one that came with the EK) with the one from the stock cooler. The EK thermal pad didn't had contact "memory" after removal. There by my suspicion.

    So far, no hang ups.
But because the stock cooler thermal pad is thicker, the contact between the EK and the GPU's is worse. My temps increased about 3ºc for the DISPIO and SHADERCORE on both cores. But the MEMIO from one of the gpus is about 10ºc higher. And this was after I tweaked the screws. Before this, the memio was 30ºc higher.

I hope this was the end of it.

Can the shorter screws possibly shorting the board cause visual artifacts like this:

    By kevikev

When I initially installed my 4870x2 w/ the waterblock, I wasn't getting these, then over time, I am only getting pictures w/ artifacts and sometimes, the VPU will crash and I'll lose video signal altogether.

    Hi!
If the picture is ok with the original heatsink there mus be something wrong with the installation and contact.

If there is a contact issue, is it likely with the GPU or TIM pads?
