    i7 860 - eVGA P55 FTW

Just set this rig up last night, very happy with it thus far.

    i7 860
    4GB Corsair Dominator GT 1600Mhz C7
    eVGA P55 FTW
GTX 280 @ 700/1220 (will change out to 5870 next month)
    TorqX SSD
    Corsair TX850 psu
    Vista 64

And it clocks very well, and easily. 4.2Ghz was the first OC i tried on a cheap CM Hyper TX3 air cooler and it was running 3DM Vantage and Cinebench. (took 1.35v on the chip) I won't be testing for long term stability until I get better cooling setup.

    CPU-Z Validation
    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=728644

    3DM Vantage P14305
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=1439654

One question I do have though is what is a safe VTT? I wasn't too sure so I had used 1.4v but whats safe for 24/7?

Cool. Do u experience power recycling issue as everytime u switch on the comp, the CPU will spin , then it will power off then power on again

I have yes. Not sure why this is but it hasn't been a stability issue. Only happens when I power up.

Is there some underlying issue with the board I am not aware of?

    Thx

I haven't found anything besides one post on the eVGA forums and that user says it is normal for it to "boot twice" ???

    Strange.

Hi Thar! I happen to have the same RAM modules, only running them in a "normal" Asus P7P55D board. Do you have any luck at overclocking the modules? Mine have a really hard time running even at 1600mhz with 7-7-7-20 timings (1.65v DRAM / 1.15v IMC).. Also my XMP profile for the sticks reads 8-7-7-20, same with you?

I'm currently running them at 1750mhz 8-8-8-24 at the "stock" voltages as posted before, this seems to be the max for these timings/voltages. Still a bit dissapointed..

Anyway very nice setup you got there

Running some blend tonight on this new rig. I'm so glad people are starting to post results with this board and cpu. I will have to get this chip on water to blend any higher.

Very nice results with your oc's . You were able to keep turbo enabled with your testing? I had it disabled, will have to try that.

Abit P35 had that dualboot thing it's quite annoying really. I managed to get it to 4Ghz but it's unstable I'm using the Xigmatek S1283 on the 775 holes but it didn't seem to fit quite well. I have a heatkiller LC but that too is the 775 version, I will get the 1156, this dual hole thing isn't working for me
NameGt you are owning that board and chip lol how are you getting "22" multiplier?

Whats the required voltage to get to 4Ghz stable? I just bought the 860 myself and I'm waiting for my motherboard to arrive. I'll be using a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5.

So far I have needed 1.39vcore bios, 1.40vtt but am still testing. This board has amazingly low vdrop, what you set in bios is what you get idle in cpuz. Vdroop under load is just as impressive. I cant see any need for using LLC/Without VDroop option. The only complaint I would have are the larger gaps between VTT setting compared to what i am use to on the Giga boards. So far I think this is an awesome board. Time will tell I guess.

Pic of current setup, just switched out fans to try and lower temps. Added 2x Scythe 133cfm to the True and so far I see 5c lower in blend at 4.0ghz.
Edit: Grr now only 3c less. Need to put on water but hate to take my Giga rig apart.

End result seems to be 2c less on the hottest core with push/pull config vs single fan.

    Very nice axffox.
When running blend at over 4ghz somewhere around 2hours of blend I lose video. No bsod, no freezing but video is lost, doesn't reboot or seem to be the normal freeze. Cannot get video back so have to hit the restart button or power off. I don't get the normal screen on boot when overclock fails it reboots fine. I am guessing this has to do with the on die pci-e. Anyone else experience this?

My cpu ( ci7 860 ) only goes to about 3.3Ghz on the dummy overclock and then it fails OCCT. I've remounted the stock cooler several times but the chip is still hot as hell. I know it depends a little bit on luck but most people seem to be able to get 4.0Ghz stable on the stock cooler, Is this a bad chip or am I missing something?

I haven't seen anyone stable in blend on stock cooler at 4ghz. I have seen people say stable but then post a validation, super pi or 06 run. From what I have seen 3.6ghz is about tops for stock hs. Also the auto or dummy oc adds more voltage then may be required. Best to set voltages manually, this will lower temps.

Cheers I was getting a bit concerned, When we start the "Official post your overclocks tipz and trickz thread" we'll ask for some stability verification The chip will be going under water soon hopefully she'll beehive then.

Yea the dummy oc does add more voltage than needed which in turn adds a ton of heat. Also the stock cooler is a complete joke.
I've been doing several hours of use @ 4Ghz with no problem on my end, also a few hours under LinX. I am very very pleased.

I was going to get watercooling today but I didn't like the kit at the local shop so I am going to build my own. I can run SPi 1M on all four cores @ 4.45Ghz 1.4V but thats about it. I am hoping that once I get all my cooling crap in order I'll be at atleast 4.3Ghz stable for daily use.

Working on putting the system in my CM HAF 932 atm.
