    MSI 275GTX Lightning rocks on air with pics

    after MOA2009 in Beijing i recieved the MSI 275GTX Lighting so i decided to do a little testing on it.
    everyone was very impressed with the card and in particular its ability to bench reliable at -190 degrees centigrade....in other words no cold bug.
    there are a couple of other very notable features on this card.
    firstly it has a very nice heatsink with two 80mm fans...this allows it to be very silent and very cool when running.
    a unique feature of the card are the two voltage monitoring points that allow for very easy reading of both the vgpu and vmem voltages.
    the last feature i'll mention here is the fact that MSI has provided software that will monitor temperatures, voltages, fan speeds and clocks...this software also enabled me to overvolt the gpu voltage to at least 1.5vgpu when loaded without any need to vmod the core and also deafeating any ovp at the same time.

    i took a few pictures of the card as well....clicking the images will in most cases bring up a full size image almost as big as straight out of the camera.

    the box

    so before the testing i took a look at hwbot for the fastest clocks achieved on any 275GTX in the 3D benchies.
    the highest clocks achieved in the benchies were:
    01=730/1260
    03=780/1300
    05=840/1340
    06=850/1340
    aquamark=840/1340

    so i decided i must beat these card clocks in all the benchies and prefferably with just the stock cooler.
    i'm happy to say the MSI card proved itself very well in this regard.
    i did the vmem mod so i could take the full 1.8gb of memory on the card to 1350mhz and for the core of the card i just used the afterburner software to raise the clocks and voltage....so easy.
    i easily attained 850/1350 through most benchies which proves that this card even on stock cooler is way more capable than any other 275GTX on the 'bot.

    i see this morning that some russian :P has nitrogenned a card over the weekend and attained 900mhz core clocks...only 50 more than i could do with stock cooler on air
    anyway below are the benchies...please just bare with the E6500k on air scores.
    also absolutely no tweaking was done....this was just a test to see if the MSI card could whip the pants off the competition and how easily it could do it.

    very nice for stock cooler ,with stock volts on referance card and a low tech koolance gpu pot i went 846/1700/1300
    one thing i noticed was how the msi contest cards were hitting 2100+ on the shaders,do you think if you cooled this card that 2100 on the shaders is possible?
    i have lightning coming in a few days and sure hope it can get past 1700 on the shaders with just dice,

    anyways keep it high

    Very nice

    My EVGA GTX 275 does 780MHz on the stock cooler with no vmods at all

    seth yes i see that crazy shaders
    my worries is that my card will top out at 1700 shader then no go over 846 core. (like my others)
    the one 275 that i had that went 1780 shader easy i sold to fatguy

    ok, see your clocks around and wish you much luck with the card

    well i was doing 1700 shaders with just air cooling at software monitored max temp of 52'C.
    so i think once you have taken the core to -70 or so you will find it easily surpasses my clocks.
    the afterburner software appears to be under nda till the 1st of october but if you need any help to raise vgpu and defeat ovp at the same time please feel free to pm me.
    i will update this thread with a download link for the software when nda is lifted.

    i was supposed to ln2 this card last weekend...but i failed at that...so now i'm working to purchase a nice 160l pressurised tank for my home
    then i won't have to travel 200km every time i need some nitrogen.
    anyway have no fear...this card will be frozen again and i'll try entering it in gigabytes little 275gtx comp starting next month.
    in the mean time i have hooked up a readpoint to the up6208 voltage controlled so i can start watching for OCP...i will max this card out even if i have to mod OCP...i just hope i don't kill it by mistake as i've grown very fond of it and expect it to serve me silently for a long time in my gamer once i've finished torturing it.
    the next proper bench session won't have a silly little cpu on air iether

    in the meantime i think some water on the core would be fun... to see if i can get the clocks past what that Russian dude Smoke has managed on nitrogen....while also seeing for myself if the shaders can go past 1700 easily.
    clocking with this card is like taking candy from a baby....i really can't wait till MSI releases this set of technologies on even higher end cards.

    @Oki...i think what they're trying to say is there is no need to spend extra for a 285 when this card can beat them so easily...but yes you're right they are effectively advertising in a way that will canabalise their own 285gtx sales :P....but then maybe they do better with these cards as they designed and built them from scratch themselves.

    point taken but what if they release another frozr edition, called GTX295 threezr edition lol i bet sticker will be cooler even : )

    i wish you success on next session, and wish me luck to menage some 24/7 clocks on my asus 275 as same as GTX285...i'm bit lazy these days for hc benching...

    I too just got a card for testing and am utterly amazed with it to say the least - I am going to hopefully do some good testing soon too!

    Great start!

    so i put a handmade ghetto water block on the gpu last night to see what would happen with the shaders.
    i did make it one step further to 864/1732/1350 (gpu/shader/mem) but could go no further.
    so it seems that the trick to shaders has to be in the sub-0 cooling as we all got massive shader clocks at moa under nitrogen.

    i havn't been reading that much lately but i was wondering if anyone knows if there is any other particular voltage that may affect shaders clocking ability?...say maybe vtt?

    water helped alittle,but hopefully sub zero is the way to massive clocks.

    i just had my lighting with stock volts at -47 and the shaders didnt wanna move it more or less clocked like poo,810/1620/1300??? i did about 1700 on a referance board at same stock volts and temps?
    for some reason i dont think the volts will help the shaders that much

    i can tell you have a way better shader then i do and you can push closer to the 900 side of 800.

    i think i'm stuck if the shader does not repond to volts+cold i cant see a way around it even by lowering the shader in the bios cus its still needs to be 1/2 anyway

    hmmm....well i hope it goes better with volts...please let us know if it does...afterburner with all the volts you need will be available in about three days.

    the voltage tweak software has been officially release: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner...erSetup110.zip
    its very nice software in that it allows fan, core/mem clock, and voltage adjustments...if you need more volts this is the easiest way.
