Now THAT is a nice CPU

    Anybody agree?
Lowest Vcore I have seen for 4,2 (truly) stable. Ultra low vid (high leakage) chip tho, would be nice for cascade/DICE benching I guess. There's one hell of a WC system behind that and it still hits 70-72C crunching at that low Vcore

I would go higher, but this freaking Gigabyte won't play nice. It's an EX58 Extreme, as soon as I try to post with BCLK 210 it just hangs there at post. Played with votlages to no avail.. guess it (the board) can't handle more than 200 with 12GB of ram

Nice CPU bro, what QPI/VTT voltage you use for 4.2 please?
also to Jaco out of interest for 4ghz

Maybe Jaco can answer the stepping question.. a little older. I bought 3 identical ones and shipped one to s0lid and Jaco respectively.

So now I guess they know what what theirs is capable of

4Ghz on this one is 1,14V load Vcore by the way.

VTT 1,38 Vdimm 1,66 (12GB needs more VTT than 6GB).

It's basically the same as a 920, only real difference is that the Xeon will support ECC memory while the 920 will not.
Some also say Xeons OC better. Price is slightly higher than a 920 (+10%)

Jcool, nice CPU you got there.

Here is the 920 in my sig.
had to bump the voltage to ~1.28 for 24/7 stability.
Temps run mid 70's with 100% WCG

That's a nice on too, but you gotta use more ram and run logner to be sure it's stable

That was just a quick stability test from back in the day.

it has been running WCG for 20 days straight, it is stable enough for me.

    Update:

May work with less volts, idk. Just a quick test. That's it tho, no more - the old GB Extreme cannot handle any more BCLK. At 210 I get a freeze at post, lol. Tried everything, no go. And it's not the CPU...

I'll let it crunch for now.

Thats quite an increase in volts. Still 275Mhz above what I can get on that voltage so looks like a nice cpu.

Actually it's a high leakage bench chip.. if I ever decide to reinstate my phase unit I'll give it a try

High leakage chips have high VID and are hot and slow on air - but form my experience it's not as relevant with Core i7 as it was with E8600s. What matters most with Core i7 is coldbug - all chips that passed through my hands coldbugged at -80 C or higher I don't know where are those top benchers getting their -135 C chips.

Awesome Zucker2k, that batch seems to rule. But.. do you crunch on it?

xoqolatl, it is hot as hell. This is on a HK 3,0 CU, MCP355, Feser 480 rad

Just threw my w3520 on the SS today, and confirmed: My RIIE is a total POS. 212Mhz BCLK and not more.. it starts to have weird issues with 3D at 213, 214 and on no post, no matter what
Oh well, at least I got some ram testing done

This Xeon has an awesome IMC - 2115Mhz stable at 1,45V VTT and 1,72V Vdimm

I'm gonna hook it up to the DFI again for some BCLK lovin.. that can do 230+
