    That was a few days ago. Today I tried to run Prime95 blend and it fails within a few minutes. With a room temperature of 28° Celsius it isn't the coolest day to do some stress testing with Prime95 at 4.185GHz.

    Back to 4.050GHz and run Prime95 blend. There's still something wrong. It runs fine for hours stable at 4.05GHz but sometimes I get a BSOD - Machine_Check_Exception while running Prime95.

    I'm going to try with disabling Execute Disable Bit because I think that this is causing these BSOD's.

    Not this is causing them, I have it disabled and sometimes I'm getting them too.

    This also happens when I try to lower the CPU Voltage with one step in the BIOS. My system crashes while running LinX after a few stable passes. This is very strange because there is no sign of instability before the BSOD.

    I don't think that my PSU is the problem because all voltages are stable. I don't really know what is going on.

    Higher vCore could be the solution for the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.

    Here's what I've found: http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php...5&postcount=10http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php...5&postcount=10

    If this is the solution to make these BSOD's go away than we can skip all these long linpack stress tests and move to Prime95 after a few passes linpack stable.

    A-Grey do you have LLC enabled?

    i think that it has something to do with vtt(att least for me)I had similar problems and 1-2 steps higher vtt solve the problem.

    kuebk - I don't mean to speak for A-Grey but I'm pretty sure he has LLC "Disabled", at least he did during some recent stability testing. He referred me to some BIOS settings he posted (when running his Q9650 @ 450Mhz x 9.0x) which I printed out and just checked. I had the same results as you greg.m with a small increase in Vtt voltage, really made a world of difference. With that said what do you currently have your Vtt set at?

    @greg.m

    I'll give it a try with vtt 1.16V real.

    @kuebk

    No, LLC isn't enabled. It doesn't work with my board.

    @Roger_D25

    Do you know how much watts you need to run at 4.05GHz and your GTX295?

    A-Grey set VTT to 1.24 in bios.

    It was set at 1.24V in the BIOS. The board undervolt it to 1.14V.
    I'm going to try with 1.26V in the BIOS.

    Disabling Execute Disable Bit made it a little better. Prime95 crashed but Windows was still running.

    I've tried with 1 step higher vtt and it fails Prime95 after 1 hour and 8 minutes.

    To see if it's the CPU voltage, I lowered it one step in the BIOS and BSOD - MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION after 10 minutes.

    A-Grey - I dont' know the exact wattage needs but I've had no problems with my current Thermalright 850w. With that said I do have a "P3 Kill A Watt" meter which can measure volts, current, and watts with reasonable accuracy. I'll set it up later tonight and figure out how many watts my PSU is pulling from the outlet (granted this isn't perfect but it will give an indication of what my system is pulling). With my hardware I can't specifically measure just the CPU and GPU (only what the whole system is pulling). I remember the number being less than I thought it would be when I first tried the "Kill A Watt" meter out. Will post back in a few hours after I get home from class.

    The reason I'm asking this is because my PSU is an OCZ EVOStream 600W and it's probably not enough to run at 4GHz+ and a BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 H2OC.

    It doesn't really matter if it isn't enough. I'm going to buy an FSP Booster X3 at the same time for the BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 H2OC. Than I'm going to have 300W for the GFX Card and 600W for everything else.

    All I have to do now is save some money.

    I highly doubt that 600w is not enough for such config.

    I'm not going to try without the FSP Booster X3. I'd rather spend the extra 22 Euro to buy a FSP Booster X3 than risking to blow up my PSU.

    I need at least 575W according to the Antec PSU calculator and there could be voltage peaks around 620W. Stability would suck without the extra 300W that the FSP Booster X3 can give.

    Increasing the CPU Voltage with 2 steps in the BIOS fixed the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION BSOD problem.

    This is very strange. I didn't expect to need more CPU Voltage after being stable for 100 passes in LinX.

    I bought today Q9550. After your posts I'm afraid if the PSU will handle my configuration. Of course after CPU OC.

    Thats awesome A-Grey, what card is the GTX285 replacing? I didn't know much about the FSP Booster until just checking it out, the performance of that PSU is very impressive for its size! I assume your going to use it for the GTX285 (or for something else)? Earlier today before going to class I setup the "Kill A Watt" meter to measure how many watts my PSU was pulling from the outlet. I didn't have much time to play around but I ran Prime95 25.11 Small FFT's along with 3DMark Vantage's "Jane Nash" benchmark which is the most power hungry of the Vantage benchmarks. Below is a photo of my setup (to give you guys an idea of what my system is composed of) and a photo of the meter while those benchmarks were running. The wattage peaked at about 491watts (but becaues of the camera delay it captured a lower number), lol! By the way my system was only running at 3600Mhz (400Mhz x 9.0x @ 1.25v and GTX295 @ 650/1418/2200 on stock volts). I'm still trying to get my setup stable at 4050Mhz (I can boot at 4050Mhz but as soon as I run Prime95 my system BSOD's). As soon as I get things stable I'll post the overclocked power consumption.

    I have no idea why you guys are buying such a useless things like FSP Booster X3, better would be to sell current psu and buy better one.

    Excellent work greg, that is very impressive despite the high voltages! That is the highest stable FSB I've seen on this board while running a quad-core on air/water I can see your voltages in the screenshot but what were your actual "BIOS" settings for the following voltages if you don't mind sharing?

    I'm using an ASUS EN7800GTX@513MHz. It's good enough for what I'm doing but I want it replaced for a new one with a full coverage waterblock to cool
    the VRMs and VRAMs too.

    Do you need 1.25V for 3.6GHz at full load? You're going to need at least 1.37V for 4.05GHz and you'll need it for your GTX 295.
