if only we had a pic of the top, darn those people who leak photos without 8 years of photography school
With a A 320mm2+ die simply scaling up RV770 would get more than 25-40% performance increase. They have enough room to basically double RV770 (minus mem controller), so 60% should be minimum if that's all they did. Then again, "trillian" might be lower clocked than a normal 5870. Nordic might have gotten that part wrong too, might be Juniper and not Cypress. Or they've got the number wrong, or by current gen they mean something beefier than RV770. In any case, 25-40% for RV870 over RV770 would be very dissapointing, but I'd be willing to bet most anything that the performance difference will be much greater than that.
Maybe it is not just performance but also the features that these new cards will have. Will soon see what these things are made of and what features they have to sell.
That's called TeasingWe made the decision to pull the story, sorry for any inconvenience. There will be more on the many flavors of Radeon in the future.
Story pulled.

A bit strange IMO. Nordic has pulled two articles about the Cypress cards, seems like they are being fed FUD/getting sparse with real info (there by making it hard to draw conclusions) or are making stuff up and hoping people won't tell the difference. Since Nordic has been presenting quite a lot of credible ATI info in the past (IMO), the two former seem most likely.
Didn't Andreas have an XS account? It would be nice if he told us what the sources were and which card was the "older generation"..

Now that they pulled the story,I'm convinced the 5870 is roughly ~20% faster than 4870X2, on average.![]()
Maybe it's 20% faster than a GTX295 and 40% faster than a 4870X2?
