    Dave, as an employee of ATI/AMD, had to say that RV770's PowerPlay was functioning at launch. I'm not denying that PowerPlay wasn't working (as I mentioned the core did downclock from 750MHz -> 500MHz), just that it wasn't working to the best of its potential.

    VID's, clock speeds and heat output of RV770 cards in the idle state, around launch time, they all pointed to PowerPlay not being very effective.

    As I mentioned before, it's much better now with the GPU downclocking to only 240MHz.

    AMD has always been quicker to a mature process and crossover point, so by the time intel gets their issues and volume sorted out, AMD won't be very far behind at all.
