Like BioShock 1.5b4 was crap for me also. Blue screens for unknown reasons and anyone notice the Board temrature with 1.5b4? Mine was up 8 to 10 degrees from 1.4 or even 1.5b1. I was seeing on my board 42ish at idle compared to 32ish before and after 1.5b4. So I dropped 1.5b4. Thought I would share the temprature difference I noticed. I wonder why I was higher with the same OC settings? Hmmmm

I am looking for some help getting my cpu stable at 3600. I've read almost this entire thread and spend a good bit of time playing with settings with no luck. I'm starting to think I have a dud.

1.42 bios. NB and HT set to auto. Ram running with the 1333 divider. Right now, the only voltage I have set in the bios is the cpu vdd, cpu-nb vdd, and dram. I've tried the others with no luck. I've pushed 1.45 to the cpu and prime still fails in less than a minute. It seems to run hot too. Even under 1.4v, it can reach 60c (software reading). I resat the heatsink (hr-01 plus) today and its about the same. Any help is appreciated.

edit.. just wondering, do you think it could be my psu? Its 520w, but rather old.. ocz 520 12u

I have this PS in my old system that runs a Phenom 9850@3.0 GHZ with a HD4870 and it holds up fine. I doubt your CPU is going to outdraw the 9850. I hated the fan though and replaced it, bearing chatter drove me nuts.

If you can't get anywhere, drop your memory and HT down below stock, and just overclock using the CPU mulitplier. If you still can't get 3.6, then you might have a dud.

Ya, I didn't think it was the psu, but I was hoping it could be since I am in the market for a new one. Hmm, my fan sounds pretty silent on my psu. Its been a really solid psu.

I'll try dropping them below 2k. Should I give "NB Voltage" a value or leave it to auto?

I am trying 3520 with 1.3625v right now. I ran prime earlier for almost two hours. I swapped in my new 4890 and it failed in about 10 minutes. I was using a 260 earlier.

The 4890 might be enough to push the PS output to marginal. Doing the calculations, on my system the PS is getting fairly close to it's limit on the 12 volt line with everything at full load. The 520 12u was designed to push a lot of current through the 5 volt line, not so much on the 12 volt, which both the CPU and GPU are drawing from.

If swapping vid cards causes Prime to fail, sure seems like a PS problem.

hmm.. I'll swap in a cheap vid card and give it a go tomorrow. I'm also running 2 storage drives, 2 raptor x in raid 0, 3 120mm fans with controller, and a dvd drive.

Does it matter than I am running xp 64? I read that it isn't as stable as 32 bit but I don't know its limits (4ghz?).

I know it wasn't wise, but I was trying to do some testing on the cpu by pushing it way up over 3600 with the same voltage to see if it lets me boot into windows. I figure, if it won't prime for more than a few seconds in windows, then it might near its limit to allow me to boot to windows. It was still booting over 3700.. prime was just failing instantly. Do you think this may rule out a dud?

I tried the video card thing. It was still crapping out at 3600.

I guess it was the bios. I thought 142 was decent, but I just upgrade to 154 and I am running prime at 3600 with only 1.3625 in the bios! Its only been a few minutes, but it was failing after seconds previously.

Here's a question for you other GD70 owners...
I am considering a second card for 'Crossfire'. But with Windows 7 and DirectX11 comming out will I see enough benefit to spend $150-$200 to use for a few months (is it that good) or would you wait for DirectX 11 and Windows 7, then replace for 'Crossfire' or are multi cards just Ego and addl. FPS? I run all my games etc, fast with one card. Are you glad you spent the extra dollrs for multi cards? What are you going to do at the end of the year when it's available?

    Anyone use 1.5b6 yet?

1.1 is the best overclocking BIOS for me. I tried 1.3, 1.42, 1.5, etc. For some reason stability from 3.5-3.6 is compromised with the newer BIOSes for me.

I too am considering grabbing a second HD 4850 just because they're so cheap. From what I've seen, the newer Catalyst drivers and crossfire profiles are quite efficient with 2 cards in crossfire. I'm mostly looking for improvements in Crysis and a bit more GPU power to help future proof it a bit.

Yea it's the Future Proof part that gets me... DirectX 11? I wonder of our 10.1's will update to 11 and be future proof. Crysis is the Game for me also that has me considering Crossfire, just a few more FPS would be nice for the ocassional Crysis slowdown I get. I guess it won't be until October with the release of Windows7 before the next generation DirectX11 is out? How much does a second card add, like in FPS?

Wait for the official 1.5 then update.

The 1.5bx series have so far been for people unlocking CPUs mostly.

The listed changes to 1.5b6 are not performance, USB, HDD and VGA updates. I think my next update will be when MSI puts 1.5 out.

... and my gd70 just died. I was finally making some progress with my cpu. I gave it 1.5v and I was running around 3650.

I just installed a watercooling setup a few days ago too No, its not leaking.

::scratch that.. It seems my old ocz 520w psu, which was already in question, couldn't handle the it. Close one.

Well this becomes my replacment for my now dead Gigabyte MA790FXT that died when my cpu desided it would be a great time 2 weeks before a lan party to die. It died durring a bios update which took the board with it. well this gives me an excuse to get this board. So i will soon be the proud owner of an MSI board. If there are any hints or suggestions it would be greatly appretiated.

Got my new system put together but the system isn't powering up to first screen. Turns on some stuff comes up on the poster and then it shuts off. Successfully booted first attempt into windows and my nvidia driver didn't seem to be working. Restarted as I was going to format my SSD and it won't start. Taken one ram stick out so there is only one in the first slot.

Post codes I am getting is FF, D3, D5 and then 2A and then it shuts off (may be some others but last one to show is 2A).

    System is
    AMD PhenomII 965
    BFG GTX285 OCX
OCZ Platinum AMD Edition 1600 RAM (Maybe this is too fast for it to boot with?)

2A can be vga or hdd problem, try disconnecting the sata ports, if it still won't boot try relocating the vga card to another slot

Ok update. Thanks for them hints did both but still no luck. So I unplugged the PSU and then plugged it back in and it has booted and gone straight past 2A etc and I have now got into BIOS. What would be causing this? Unplugging and then replugging in the PSU seems to work :/
    Thanks
