Heh, i get 84 seconds in the reboot .vbs test.

My OS isn't very well optimized though & is an old install.

I'd love to do the applications test, but i don't have time right now to install so much stuff.

I just ran the 40-app test w/ a single X25-M. Although I did not use Rivatuner as its too much of a pain to get it to install on a 64-bit OS. So I used Thunderbird instead. Took ~ 12 seconds.

    Cool!
Do the same on 2xRaid0 setup if you get the chance, please.

    not from me you won't

Installing 40 apps that i don't use was a pain in the ass. So for my comparison I am doing a 40 app launch of programs that I use/have already installed. Will be easier to time as well since it takes 2-3 times as long.

    Great!
Apps that you use are even better.
And you are right about timing them, it should give even clear picture of what setup is faster!
    Thanks!

Fresh OS, Fresh X25-Es (just secure erased), 4.5ghz = ~9.5 seconds

    E's, meaning 2 in Raid0 setup, right?

Also could you downclock to lets say 3.0GHz, so we can see the impact?

    Yes, 2.

I've tried that before. Back when it was 12sec, down clocking to 3ghz put it to like 18-20 seconds. Havent tried it with a fresh config.

I think 12sec to 9.5 sec was mainly due to the secure erase. The drives get A LOT slower after being thrashed around. Average read access time goes from 0.09ms to 0.16ms and the maximum access times go wayyyy up. If I got two more then they would stay in the fresh state for months. I would have gotten two more already but I spent a few thousand this month on random already and I gotta pay for uni as well right about now. Maybe in a month or two when my pay checks catch up.

This is still using ancient firmware. I should flash them and try it again.

Wow, CPU clock speed sure makes a lot of difference!
Thing is, it probably isn't very noticeable in everyday usage, right?

I personally don't like the extra power consumption and heat. I much prefer a moderate overclock. The i7 860's are looking like a pretty good cpu to overclock, if they have plenty of headroom.
    Are you Intel's Btch?

    Damn.
Looks like we'll need a few generations newer CPUs if we intend to run fast and cool.
    The waiting game newer ends!

Hey Napalm, any chance you could run the same test with the original 512mb memory on your controller if you still got it. Curious how much of a difference, if any cache, memory gives for read access like boot times and app. load.

Is it possible to incorporate a software timer into the 40app test? I find it extremely difficult to know exactly when to stop the stopwatch.
