I had other stuff running but its good enough. If my mobo had a better controller you could probably add about 7% to this result. I'm also "only" using a SATA cable, not a "specific" SATA 2 cable. Is there even a difference beside the newer cables having a proper latching system?

Going to install my new 300GB Velociraptor and see how she benches. As a mental note here is my current WD Black 1TB (WD1001FALS):

Here's a change of pace. A while back I saw one of our work Laptops running PAINFULLY slow. I decided to benchmark a few things to see what the issue was. This was the result after a quick run with HDTune.

Here's another abrupt change of pace, someone ordered x25m RAID0 with a 4GHz 975. Had to bench it!

Nice initialised. I fully bench all my builds also...hey, i don't want to sell them an unstable, or poorly performing machine.

    PS: That's quite the beast.

However the CPU usage is interesting, I tried to rerun it 3 times but I usually got -1% -1.2% and 0.5%

It's a RAID controller thing. Since the RAID controller is managing the I/O for your HDD's I don't believe HDTune can accurate measure the CPU load induced.

    4x Intel 80GB G1 drives on ICH10R in RAID10 (fairly empty)

the 4k random reads is a bug I think,

The reads were about the same in RAID0 with all the drives.

This is a Samsung F1 320GB (about 30% full) non-member RAID, non-OS (everything the same other than single drive)

And the last is a 150GB Velociraptor (about 30% full) non-member RAID, OS (everything the same other than single drive)
