I'm thinking the 980a is not a very overclocking-friendly chipset. I had a GeForce 8200/8300 (720a) that couldn't overclock my 5000+ Black Edition above 3GHz on any voltage. Once I switched to a 780G/SB710 combination, I can do 3.3GHz easily just on the multiplier.

I'm beginning to feel the same way...however the 780a chipset which is the same chipset...supposedly CAN reach 4Ghz on air...so I'll not give up hope yet

check sopiemans results on the 780a here:

heh, i wish this was true. im stuck at 3.5GHz on my Foxconn Destroyer/720BE and I'm having the same issues as you; no matter what voltage I set to get past 3.5GHz stable, I either BSOD or Prime95 gives me errors.

I guess its just the luck of the draw.

If you're curious check out my 5000+ OC on the 590 chipset here...http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherb...i-club-72.html...(very bottom-most post on page) it was tough but...267x12 was the magic number

If the M2N32 SLI deluxe mobo had a PCIE 2.0 slots rather than 1.0, I'd chuck this M4N32 Deluxe and just use the older board...that sucker was the best motherboard I've ever seen....dual gigabyte LAN, SATA II, [RAM and 2x PCIE slots (both x16) parallel to each other] (helped air flow amazingly)...the ONLY reason I bought this new mobo was for the PCIE 2.0 slots.
