    DDR2 vs DDR3

Hey guys, I'm gonna be building a new computer in a month and I can't decide if I should go DDR2 or DDR3.

The DDR2 I'm looking at is 1066 5-5-5-15 by Patriot which costs 230 PLN, and the DDR3 is 1600 7-7-7-18 also by Patriot and costs 330 PLN.

Is it worth it to go DDR3? I'm getting a 720 BE.

    230 PLN = ~50€
    330 PLN = ~75€

I'd take DDR3, eventhough there's no performance gain. DDR2 is a dying breed.

I think you can get 2x Transcend Axeram 2x1gb 1800 CL8 from this store: http://everon.pl/index.php?p1498,tra...2x1gb-1800-cl8 . I bought it there. It's much cheaper than patriots.

Depends on your needs. Prsonally I would take a decent cheap C2D build and pocket the saving for a HD5k series card. As has already been said, right now DDR3 offers no real advantage over some decent DDR2, and probably won't offer anything over DDR2 for a year or so, maybe a bit longer.

You have to notice that DDR2 wasn't much faster than DDR1 (check socket 939 vs socket am2). DDR3 usually give 5 to 10% performance boost in games and if we want to change socket than we haven't buy memories.

with AMD AM3 chips, you better go with DDR3. as chew* said:

guys on ddr II wanting to come close to ddr III 32m times need to 4-4-4 1000+ and high NB 5-5-5 is not faster not even at 1200+
    from here

so, I think there is an improvement of DDR3 in performance over DDR2
