thank you Max and Charles for the interest.
unfortunately, my day job required more time from me... extending into early mornings. and i will have to attend a series of training-meetings for several days in the next few weeks. *sigh*

i'm preparing a couple of pictures for upload on a very recent acquisition i've made for the project though... hopefully this would be enough to keep this project interesting.
good choice then on the brackets bianco. Can't wait to see them finished

    Looking really sweet Bianco,

I am also looking at the TJ07 case for my first WC project.
The challenge I have is, the 5 computer retail outlets I have rang in Perth so far don’t have one in stock, and when you mention that you want to put a radiator in the top, the phone either goes quiet or you get a dumb ass comment like “ it’s not a car you know”.

The last thing I want to do is hijack your work-log, so I will try to keep it short.
If you could help me out I will appreciate it greatly.

What I would like to do is put one of the radiators from the list below into the inside top of the case with 25mm fans, however as I can’t get my hands on one to measure from the inside top down to the motherboard and from the inside back forward to see how much room there is, I need help.

I would like to use either a "Model: MC-RADI360MOD Magicool Elegant 360mm Copper Radiator with Integrated Polycarbonate Reservoir 120(W)x34(D)x424(H)mm"
    found here
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=23793
Or a Model: MC-RADI240MOD Magicool Elegant 240mm Copper Radiator with Integrated Polycarbonate Reservoir 122(W)x34(D)x305(H)mm
    Found here
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=23792
If there is not enough room the either one of these, then a Model: MC-360UVB Magicool 3 X 120mm Premium Copper Fin Radiator - UV Blue Finish Dimensions: 121x29x397mm (WxDxH),
    Found here
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=21620
There is also a Model: MC-240UVB Magicool 2 X 120mm Premium Copper Fin Radiator - UV Blue Finish Dimensions: 121x35x277mm (WxDxH) at performance pc as well however it’s depth is 35mm thick.

The real question is will there be enough space between the bottom of the fans and the motherboard, which will be a Asus Rampage II Extreme in my case, I know your not using this motherboard.

I want to do a full para-flow on my project

If by chance there is enough room I might use a XSPC RX.

Thank you in advance for all your time and effort I do appreciate it.

thanks kgtiger. i already have the case in rev-atx, and i cannot make measurements based on the atx config. but i'll still try my best to help you...
from what i understand, you want to mount the top rad inside the case. the clearance from the case ceiling and the top of the mobo tray is 40mm. it seems that you can mount the rad, but not the fans - which i guess you can mount outside (in pull config). btw, why do you want to put the rad on top? there should be enough space at the lower compartment (if you don't need the hdd bays).

Thanks Bianco for that, I had a gut feeling there might not be enough room to have both rad and fans.
I really want to keep everything inside the case and don't now how well a rad would work without any fans pushing any air through them.
By the way I have edited my post so the links now go where they should.
Love what you have done so far, keep it up.

np kgtiger. i understand, but do consider having the rads at the lower compartment or even the front bay area. i've tried running my previous system without the fans turned on for the rads, and it's not good.

I din't think it would Bianco.
Looks like I will recess 2 240 rads in the front hard drive bay in para-flow mode and a 360 in the bottom like you have.
Thanks for all your time mate, much appreciated and congratulations on the new arrival.

    CaseCarnage... continues!

and here goes... a real update!
since this would be another of the 'case carnage' series...
those who have weak heart and sensitive to seeing a chassis gutted, please avert your eyes.
    you have been warned!

after i saw the slot in drive, i have been toying with the idea of incorporating it in my system.

but of course, it won't simply go into the drivebay... that would be too easy... so out came the masking tape and tools

after spending time filing and sanding the edges

masking tape removed for closer inspection

attempted to use the 3mm thick aluminum sheet for the drive bracket

however, it proved too difficult to fold - especially the short sides... moved to plan b

    measurements and markings completed

first cutting done by dremel, filed the edges

corners cut with combination of dremel and nibbler

    after some metal origami

optical drive in its cage, the back of the optical drive

    viewed from the other side/front

    as seen from above

next tasks... open up the bottom for sata data and power connection, then spray paint

hopefully not. will have a 'test' next week when time permits. if it does, then probably a few more mounting points to secure it.

    A+ for effort bianco!

I love that you took on a really challenging concept Mate and I give total props for that... my only thing is execution and I think you know what I mean. I say this only in the hopes that you understand what I'm saying is done so with only the most positive of intents.

I look forward to your next update.

yeah, i'm not done with it yet. sketching some options to stealth the screw heads and the drive face. totally understand and appreciate your continued interest; in spite the (uber) slow progress.

    Sounds great bianco!

I really hate being critical of other people's work which is why I tend to avoid doing so. After all the work you've put into this build, I just felt it was a bit below what I've seen to date. I'm pleased to hear you're still working on tidying up that drive mod. Counter sunk screws sound good... I wonder about maybe some kind of outer flange that looked good and cleaned up the cutout. Took massive stones to cut into the top of that case... as I said A+ for effort and I really mean than!

Anyway Mate, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

i don't mind at all Charles; especially if it's coming from you... you know your stuff and i respect your opinion.
believe me, it took me quite a while before i started drilling on the top of the case. it wasn't like the bottom where it won't be an eyesore if i made a mistake; this was visible to all!
yup, that's one of the options, i'll be getting a step drill soon. but there's another idea that's been nagging at the back of my head since i finished mounting the drive...
    thanks again Charles!

A c-sink bit and some black Hex head c-sink screws will fix that top right up bianco - its possible for you to bring the face of the drive up to the top surface of the case right?

that's right S_D, a few minutes of filing the case opening should provide enough clearance for the drive to be flush with the case.

bianco, I really like the slim slot-load idea (thought about it for my Antec 300). I suggest buying something like THIS or any other variant on that page.

Then cut it apart to make a proper slim ODD mounting bracket (mounting holes are standardized). It should be more secure than what you have now. Of course...you'll need to figure out how to mount it to your case...

    Good luck!

bianco, I really appreciate your ingenuity (and dremel work) regarding the cd/dvd drive installation! Excellent job. I noted you found yourself content with the way it is as it stands (I think)... which is cool, because it looks great. But as others (I think) have asked, would it be easy enough to bring the cd/dvd drive up flush with the case?

    Regardless, muy kudos.

    brackets... brackets... and more brackets...

alright, lost track of too many things. time to update my project log. :P :P :P

first off, res brackets were trimmed off the 'fat'... will have to shave off the ragged edges and smoothen it again

    waste product of the 'liposuction'

    pump brackets

    hdd bracket

...which goes vertically on the side of the bay drive plates

optical drive bracket, revision - encloses the entire drive now and holds it up flush with the top of the case

cut an opening at the back of the bracket for the ports

quick shot of the top slot loading optical drive flush with the case... i couldn't find any countersunk socket heads, settled on these pan heads instead
