i read this as "ocz pushes indilinx to add auto-trim"
i doubt indilinx was interested in spending time on a project thats finished in their books
makes sense as its a VERY important feature... if ocz can get this done then we will see notably cheaper alternatives to intels ssds which are still overpriced imo...
White, in FW 1.30 there is something called NAND Launderer. That end result is as presented in the review, but the algorithm is different. It works indeed, but needs many hours of idle time to do its job. I play with the SSD, benches drop to 50%, in 4-5 hours idle time, back to 100%. The new Garbage collection algorithm in this beta FW is supposed to do it's stuff while you work on the computer and would bring it back in a matter of minutes.

It's kind of surprising how fast the SSD market has started focussing on the controller brand, rather than just the end-line re-badger. Even now, when I browse for SSD's on a retailer's site, the product description frequently includes the controller make.Originally Posted by saaya

It may not have been high on Indilinx's priorities, but if they know what's good for them, they won't drop the ball in this market - just look at what happened to the "Jmicron" brand. Well, worse than usual, I mean.

Does this do the so called 'garbage collection' through the controller or OS, as if it's through the drive itself then it should also do this while in raid, right?

That is very good if you ask me as the biggest difference in SSDs IS the controller (for the things I care about). Who cares if a jMicron-based SSD can reach überhigh sequential read but sucks ass when it comes to random 4k write/read?

I think it will... TRIM doesn't but the NAND launderer does... and with this new firmware the speed is restored even faster... very interesting stuff here as I'm about to install my 2 60GB Vertex drives next week

the iops tests really show off those intel drives, see page 7
EDIT: finished reading, and page 11 is freaking awesome, its like watching your SSD evolve back to stock. they do go over alot of good points about this new firmware, and it looks like they could very well make some nice OS tools to get the most out of it.

The question is... only internal RAID0 controllers support or any kind of arrays?
The "auto Garbage Collection" it's an internal enhance (FW level) so it maybe works fine in a RAID structure.

Nothing to catch up to. What ST has released is not the same as what's coming from OCZ. Don't know how long this will be true as the other manufacturers most likely are not going to be happy about this situation.
we don't have to catch up at all, ST release the FW with limited testing after Indilinx release the file...we are more thorough. ST 1711 is not the same as ours, there file does not have the GC added. Yes they will be pissed and yes OCZ have the advantage for a while
I will release Vertex, Agility and (hopefully) EX FW Thursday to our forum, TURBO does not have an update yet so anyone trying to flash the new FW to TURBO will just slow their drives down and make it hard to back flash to TURBO....be warned

Pretty impressive, once trim becomes available i'd probably consider getting one of these now, but i'm a x25 nuthugger so there would have to be a big price difference to sway me.
