X-COM is probably one of my favorite games of ALL time- but Mechwarrior RAWKS! How many hours and dozens of cases of liquid refreshment have we wasted roaring the mechs in PvP battles - back when we were still uisng COAX and had to modify our AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files to get network support! Somewhere in there WIndows 95 came along and the Mechwarrior series took a serious change for the.....<better I guess>

Considering that today - even the most mainstream of gamer-quality video cards will have more raw processing power than the entire computer (or like my first 50) that I had when playing Mechwarrior - i totally expect some serious IN YOUR FACE effects

I would go for the Blood of Kerensky Trilogy (3 books)

If you don't read novel type books then I would just avoid.

As mentioned a few times in the thread. Blood of Kerensky trilogy is a good place to start.

    1 LethaLethal Heritage
    2 BloodBlood Legacy
    3 Lost Lost Destiny

There are books that predate these three. The first book for this trilogy starts in 3049 I believe. Introduces many characters and their relationships to the story line. It also mentions many of the older characters (parents etc) they are talked bout in previous novels.

The novels predating the Blood of Kerensky Trilogy:

    Decision at Thunder Rift
    The Sword and the Dagger
    Mercenary's Star
    The Price of Glory
    Warrior: En Garde*
    Warrior: Riposte*
    Wolves on the Border
    Warrior: Coupé*
    Heir to the Dragon

    *= Trilogy

Here is a in depth listing of all the novels centered around the Battletech Universe.

Amazing how many authors have written battle tech books and how they don't appear to contradict each other or tell the story of the same events.

Same events, and or reflect other events on other books and also there are times when characters from one book, from a different author will make an appearance in another novel.

Very well integrated time line on all parts. I can't say I don't like any of the authors though I am a fan of Stackpole's writing over others.
