    i hope so too

    if we can all agree on the same set of apps that run/load up correctly on xp/vista/win7 were good to go

    though taking the time.. precise timming is not easy.. and have to reboot each time.. i dont see many up to it but maybe if we can keet it @ 50 apps ?

    ultimately if everyone honestly contributes.. yeh this may turn into smtg nice

    Napalm - what are you running for a video card -I find that some VC drivers take a very long time to load.
    The standard GTX295 when running quad actually makes the machine completely stop for about 4-5 seconds - pretty sure it is the VC drivers - this when ruuning xp x32.
    Before I installed quad sli the startup was much faster.

    Yep great idea. I will be able to contribute soon with a humble little G2 and perhaps 2.

    @napalm: I think the "one-day-setup" FEAR was talking about was the before mentioned 24xsamsung setup not yours.

    back on topic: I think you guys should make up a list of 50+ free apps and zip them all together with a bat file and host them somewhere so we can all DL them install on a fresh win install and bench.

    The same should be done by making 2 official XS File Folders. One containing smaller files like songs and pictures an aproximately 1GB in size. The other containing a ~4GB video or iso file.
    These folders could then be used by others to time the duration it takes to copy them around the system being tested and giving us the real MB/s speeds.

    Who knows maybe this is the first XS hdd real world bench being born here!

    Yes, HD5 is only a resellername of Acard.
    I ordered (collective order) my 2 Acards from HyperOS in Germany http://www.hyperossystems.de/

    You can see the blue print "Acard" - not HyperDrive 5

    a new better nlited xp has been long overdue.. im holding off till i get new ssds
    Yep, my nLite build is about 6 month old. Need to bring in RyanVM post SP3 packs. That would require complete re-build, and yeah takes a lot of time. Checked my C:\Windows is 1.2Gb. As bare bones as it goes - no IE, Lang, Doc, Drivers, WM. Replaced with FF, VLC, Gimp, Notepad+, FileZilla and etc.

    For your free apps here are some ideas:
    OpenOffice
    Gimp
    Firefox

    Sony KDL40 // ASRock P67 Extreme4 1.40 // Core i5 2500K //
    G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 4x2Gb // HD6950 2GB // Intel Gigabit CT PCIe //
    M-Audio Delta 2496 // Crucial-M4 128Gb // Hitachi 2TB // TRUE-120 //
    Antec Quattro 850W // Antec 1200 // Win7 64 bit

    To test how long your system takes to reboot, copy the below text into a text editor and save the file as a .vbs Then close all open programs and save work etc. double click the file you just created and your computers reboot time will be timed. The Script should work on all windows OS.

    My time was 103 seconds as I'm currently stuck on a 1tb 7200 rpm drive until the G2 finally ships!!!

    Option Explicit
    On Error Resume Next
    Dim Wsh, Time1, Time2, Result, PathFile, MsgResult, MsgA, AppName, KeyA, KeyB, TimeDiff
    MsgA = "Please close all running applications and click on OK."
    KeyA = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RestartTime\"
    KeyB = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run\RestartTime"
    AppName = "ReBoot-Time"
    Set Wsh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    PathFile = """" & WScript.ScriptFullName & """"
    Result = wsh.RegRead(KeyA & "Times")
    if Result = "" then
    MsgResult = Msgbox (MsgA, vbOKCancel, AppName)
    If MsgResult = vbcancel then WScript.Quit
    Wsh.RegWrite KeyA & "Times", left(Time,8), "REG_SZ"
    Wsh.RegWrite KeyB, PathFile, "REG_SZ"
    Wsh.Run "cmd /c Shutdown -r -t 00", false, 0
    else
    Wsh.RegDelete KeyA & "Times"
    Wsh.RegDelete KeyA
    Wsh.RegDelete KeyB
    TimeDiff = DateDiff("s",Result,left(Time,8))
    MsgBox "Your computer reboots in " & TimeDiff & " seconds", VbInformation, AppName
    end if
    wscript.Quit

    This is more like it!
    Nice script Rhys!

    @Napalm: Yes we should be able to get a hold of some free mp3s and 300-600kb sized free pictures and make a let's say a 1GB folder containing 50% mp3s and 50% pictures.
    The iso file should be a DVD sized one IMO. So maybe compiling a some DVD containing any free material and making a +.iso image of it for large file R/W testing purposes

    As for DVD shrink I'm not really sure what you mean... doesn't the time measured for DVDshrink completion depends mostly on your CPUs transcoding abilities. I never used/saw that file copy option in it IIRC

    napalm, is that a fully functioning install with the drivers installed, or is it just fresh install? If it's just a bench os, what doesn't work?

    150 seconds

    The Sil3132 doesn't play nice w/ the ICH10R. Takes effing forever to get past both setup screens.

    dvdshrink and even nero uses the storage muscles to copy from one folder to another.. way faster for copying dvd but thats dvd.. we dont have to do dvd

    just and only the essential mobo/areca drivers

    my xp is no diff than the original xp.. video/sound never get installed

    i got many diff sound cards.. ati/nvidia video cards.. id have to do one xp for ati one for nvidia.. and every week they release new ones bigger and bigger.. no point in integrating the drivers.. when i install my xp.. i install new video drivers available that day

    this way my xp doesnt get bloated.. whatever kind of config i install on

    can you include a task manager pic in that screenie? I'm wondering how much ram that all the drivers would total up to.

    Napalm, sorry if this is already mentioned, but what is your array? How long does it take to reformat the whole thing to ntfs? (full)
