Hmmm Vertex price drops. Makes the choices all that more compelling. Maybe this Intel drive for OS, Vertex for programs and a regular harddrive for storage.

This is quite a monumental product release really- has there ever been a PC product that is more powerful than the previous version and that has come out at a considerably cheaper price than it's older brother? It'd be like an HD5890 (whatever the are naming it...) coming out at $100 cheaper than a HD4890. Crazy stuff going on-

Really? Kingston seem to have had more luck with the very same JMicron controller two years later. It doesn’t break speed records but it doesn’t stutter either. OCZ simply dumped it and moved on. Easy for them to do that because they are simply :banana::banana::banana:ing other peoples products. Did OZC listen to Core owners desperate for a f/w upgrade? The Intel drive on the other hand has been out for a year and remains the best overall performing drive in its class. Why should anyone feel sh*t on?

EDIT: Sorry don't mean to flame or go on about ocz, I just want to put the trim issue in perspective. I don't think its that big a deal in terms of how the x25 perfroms, but in any case I would be highly surprised if Intel don't provide it on G1 drives, but I guess its a bit like MS. They aren't providing trim on Vista or xp either...things move on.

Just a convo and wine? Nothing else afterward? Well that wasn't worth it then.

LOL Changed your response. Other one was better.

Dinner and Wine could of costed as much as the drive depending on where you go.

Once again not meaning to be flame bait, but I feel (not sure if other people agree with my opinion) that even though our Gen1 X-25M drives are pretty darn fast with the 8820firmware, the PRINCIPLE of Intel releasing a firmware which supports TRIM..even if it brings little to no noticeable performance gain is what matters really.
I have my sneaky suspicions that a lot of the enhancements in the Gen2 drives are largely firmwarebased and Intel do not want to release the firmware for the Gen1 drives as it would take some of the thunder away from the new arrivals.

They will eventually IMO. They wouldn't want to look bad, and also they still gotta sell the stock of gen1 drives somehow anyway.

Quite possibly true, however if it was firmware enhancements then why haven't they released them for the X25-E? There is no new E version coming in 34nm until next gen AFAIK so there is nothing to take the thunder away from.

Yeah I've read that. It just says improvements which doesn't mean much on its own. We will see I guess. If they do come up with good gains on the current X25-E just through firmware then you are most likely right in your original statement.

I guess I see the glass half-full as I read improvements as performance enhancements, but then again it could really be anything from.. bug fixes or compatibility improvements.
Would be nice though wouldn't it
