well i am running it now at 3.7ghz with a vcore of 1.18-1.20v.
that combo you got there id say you will be able to get 4.0 out of it easy. thats if you have some good 1066 mem. i cant go no higher cause of my ddr2 800 mem cant run any higher than 880mhz

that I45 T-power board should serve you well with this chip. a friend of mine here got the same one and he has the I45 board also and has had it up to 3.9ghz stable. but he has 1066 mem too.

My memory is rated to 1100MHz and I have run it there with 5-5-5-15 timings. It does take 2.4V to do it though (which is what OCZ specifies and warranties :-)

I picked up this Biostar board for $65 shipped on eBay (wasn't expecting to win it, just a random bid). It doesn't have 8 phase power like my P5Q-Pro board but hopefully since this is a 45nm chip that will be less of an issue. I did find that I could OC a Q6600 better on the P5Q-Pro than on the I45 and I attribute that to better power regulation.

I am tempted to move the P5Q-Pro over to this machine to use with the 9550 but it is watercooled right now so putting back the NB heatsink and all the hassles probably aren't worth it. I'll see what I can do with the I45. I was able to get one of my Q6600's to 450X8=3.6GHz on the I45 but it took 1.44V to do it and the Vendetta 2 struggles to keep the cores under 60C. I have an E8400 and E8200 in other machines but I don't aggressively OC them (3.6GHz) since I try to keep the Vcore below 1.375V on those 45nm chips.

I think that I will do the same with this Q9550... try to limit Vcore to about 1.35V +/-.

Once I have some results I will post them back in this thread so we can see how two chips from the same batch compare.

you wont have any problem keeping the vcore down on this chip. 1.365v you shouldnt see unless your trying to get it to 5.0ghz..lol you will be happy with this chip very low vid on it.

letme ask you about the OCZ Vendetta 2 you have. you asy your haven heating issues with it?
if you look at some of my recent post it shows the temps in there somewhere look at them and see if they are close to what you are getting.. i think the vendetta is doing a great job for me. im running at 3.7ghz now and on my E8400 i had it at 3.4ghz and had the same temps aor a little higher with the artic cooler freezer 7 pro

Once I have some results I will post them back in this thread so we can see how two chips from the same batch compare.
that will be good. try this try that thing..im still learning this stuff so any info is great for me.. and if i can help out any thats a plus for all..lmao

Thanks for that. My philosophy on OC is to find the edges of what can be achieved and then balance that with what I consider a reasonable 24/7 operating voltage/temperature. So I "may" get up to 1.35V just to see how high I can OC but this is not on my watercooled rig so temps will be my limiting factor I think.

I actually own 3 Vendettas (2 of the original 92mm ones and the 120mm version). I personally think they are one of the best performance per $$$ heatsinks going.

My Vendetta 2 I actually lapped to get the heatpipes silky smooth and I also bought the bolt down kit from OCZ to get good CPU contact. I also lapped the Q6600 that it was sitting on and used MX2 paste. And the end result of all that work.... about 1 or 2 degC. Oh well it was worth it just to see my wife's face as I sanded my processor and heatsink on her granite counter top

No doubt the Vendetta is a gem for the money.

That would be very good news indeed. Although I have seen posts suggesting that low VID can translate to hotter running chips at higher voltages??? That low VID is great for running stock at very low Vcore (and thus very cool) but that higher VID devices run cooler when you get into higher voltages (and overclocks).

Not sure why that would be the case. Will have to Google it.

kinda half empty half full theroy. lol
the lower vids have been able to get higher OC's with less volts. thats the way im looking at it. on my E8400 i had to go as high as 1.40v to get it stable at 4.1ghz. i didnt keep it there but thats alot of volts i think plus it was a HOT sob...lol about 3.83ghz is where i would like to run 24/7 once i get my 1066 mem and a better mobo. sure im like everyone else i want that elussive 4.0-4.2ghz OC but i cant and wont run it there 24/7
Shoot at 3.6ghz im getting 66,832 mips out of it. that is awesome i think sandra is a great benching tool..lol

I'm with you there. OC for high benches is a fun challenge but I almost always back it off to lower voltage and lower temps for 24/7. To be honest I can't really justify a quadcore for the way I use the machine (gaming, video encoding (using the GPU not the CPU), folding). I just like the challenge and staying just far enough off the leading edge to avoid going broke :-)

That E8400 must have been E0 stepping. I couldn't get my E8400/E8200 C0 stepping past 3.8GHz even with over 1.45V. Just hit a wall....

no my E8400 was CO stepping also i had it running 4.1ghz for about 48 hrs. i didnt like the near 67c temps i was getting so i backed it down to 3.6 and left it.
no a friend of mine got the EO E8400 and he has had it up to 4.5ghz on air. and running at 4.1ghz daily. but he has gotten the Q9550 as well now...

to be honest i think that might just be a TYPO. ive search SLB9V and it comes up asa E5400 CPU. all the SLB8V.s are the EO stepping for the Q9550..

I agree the UD3P board will be much better for your quad Vivid.

Have mine currently running at 3.8ghz (8.5x450), 1.200 vid chip, batch no: L844C01.

vcore, 1.21875 in bios, 1.200 idle, 1.208 load
    pll, 1.54
    vtt, 1.26
    nb, 1.26
    vdimm, 2.02

The above settings were tested with small fft for 4 hours or so without issue, im gonna let it run for 8 hours or more just to be sure, if stable enough ill try a run at 4ghz.

heck i think at my microcenter i can get the UD3R for $99 and the UD3P for $129 after 20 MIR
I think you will like the UD3P/R board much better than your current board. they are awesome with these 45nm quads. Check out the UD3/UD3R/UD3P thread.

Ive heard a lot of good things about the gigabytes as well, this p5q deluxe was a rushed buy at the time i got it, due to my evga 680i packing in (good job in the end) i rushed out and got it after reading a few quick reviews, finding it a bit harder to oc with the q9550 than with my previous q6600, gonna have to look into GTL reference settings if i want to push it any higher.

i like honesty from someone that has something i like/want and pushes towards the other side..lol thats what makes this site so great. people giving there thoughts and input on what they have delt with and not from hear say. i guess im just gonna have to bite the built and choose the UD3P or P5Q Deluxe.
