    Thank you! Excellent comparison.
Is the 965BE a Retail version, an early sample or ES? Can you test with the same VID as the 955BE?

I doubt the final retail version will have 1.4v VID, almost every 955BE can clock up to 3.6Ghz with 1.35v

that kinda was expected, i know with my 940 that every tiny voltage jump really beefed up the power consumption

can you set the 955 to 3.4Ghz and 1.4v and see if it will also draw 240W?

    its not the retail version
and with 1.35v the temp and the power consumption will droop for sure ,but i will test anyway

i think this will be the same as 965 at 1.4v but i will give a try

I can't see why AMD would put 1.4v on the 965. I think some 955's or one of the chips had hich voltage settings on some boards do to the bios. They were not setting stock correctly. Anyways, i would like to see the 965 set to same as 955 in voltage.

Why should the 965 have 1.4v? Theres no reason for that so the only difference would be 200MHz which makes maybe 10W.

the lower the temps the lower cpuv/cpuvid you need, correct? ... im guessing that it will probably run the same voltage as the 955's if its in a nicely cooled case but they have to make sure it runs stable for everyone and take into account that some people will have stock cooler in a ty case with high ambients

i would like to see both 955 and 965 run at the following settings using the stock cooler dispalying the ooct temp charts and the watts from the wall:

    3.2ghz 1.35v
    3.2ghz 1.375v
    3.2ghz 1.4v
    3.4ghz 1.35v
    3.4ghz 1.375v
    3.4ghz 1.4v
    3.6ghz 1.4v

since thats alot of tests, 5 minute runs would be more than enough to see if the temp keeps climbing or leveled out and not have to waste a week doing so. the charts posted show 66C is not the highest, since it was still going up, but was paused every 2 minutes.

If the 965 really ends up hitting in the mid to upper 60s at its stock settings then I won't be so worried about my low to mid 60s with an overclocked 955.

9 watts for an extra 200mhz? But the 28 watt drop from using the 1.35vid is still good. Probably 1-2 more notches down and it'd match power consumption of the 955.
Not much to say right now.

I'd suspect there will be a variance from chip to chip aswell. They don't all have the same leak properties.

so its still ~15w for that extra 200mhz, or it could be a bit hotter of a chip, i guess we will see when all the numbers come back. but either way, its entirely possible they will not make the 125w TDP if the 955 was close to 120w

Thanks PcCI2iminal, nowm that should be the same wattage comsumption if you put the extra volts and GHz for the 955 right?

    Nice.

I7's have similar problems. When i was trying to get the last 300 MHz out of my older i7 C0 i had a +100 watt power usage. 60% was v-core 40% was from the QPI voltage ( L3 cache)

I never measured the powerusage of my PHII system. I just kept it on stock voltage to be sure that i had a low power consumption.
