    Hey Ket,

again I am trying to get 525 MHz FSB or higher stable with my E8500 @ P5Q "Vanilla"... not possible.

I am using the newest BIOS (2102m), but already tried almost every other BIOS. I think, the NB GTL could help me there, but as you know, there is no NB GTL for the P5Q "Vanilla" and only one CPU GTL, which doesn't have really small increments (0.61x, 0.63x, 0.65x). I am trying to integrate this features (NB GTL, smaller increments for CPU GTL) into the BIOS. I already managed to create a SLIC-BIOS for the P5Q, which isn't very complicated. But the NB GTL isn't that easy to build in...
What tools should I use to create such a BIOS? Maybe you could give me some download links? Or even help me with this BIOS mod?

I'll be your Padawan, Jedi Master!

That is some mighty good work on such low volts. Congrats!

Start with the latest and slowly roll back one version at a time if you find you can't get the settings you want.

I hope I might be able to bring your attention to the following page from the P5Q-E manual:

It shows that a primary PCIE graphics card should only be mounted in the blue PCIE slot. I can confirm that a GPU does not work and the BIOS refuses to boot if a GPU is mounted in either of the other two black PCIE slots instead.

For the optimum design and air-flow of my case, I would very much like to be able to install my GPU in either one of the black PCIE slots, if possible. Preferably the one on the far right - number three. Is there any way that a marvellous Kent BIOS could allow for this achieved?

I would be tremendously grateful - and I am sure that many more silent-PC builders would be too!

    Thank you.
Thats a electrical design limitation. Nothing can be done about that. And its Ket

To add things like GTL reference values you have to modify the SLAB (Single Link Arch BIOS) portion of the BIOS. Modifying SLAB is possible to do, but very hard. One wrong move and your board could be toast. If you dare mess with SLAB probably the most easy way to go about doing it would be to extract the SLAB module from a P5Q Premium BIOS, and modify it to work with your P5Q.

Hey Key, I got a P5Q-WS and it is the most finicky motherboard I have ever used when it come to memory. It won't run even one stick of my Crucial Balistix 1000mhz memory (4 x 1GB). They were working great in my old gigabyte board, so I have no reason to believe they're bad. I was wondering if you could give my P5Q-WS (POS) bios a kick to the nutz and work your magic on it. Would be much appreciated. Peace out.

    speed step table update

    Hi,

I'm using the m2102 on a P5Q-E, with a e7300. I easily increased the FSB to 350 (stock at 266), without any voltage change.

My concern is about the speed step table (I don't know I it's real name) that are not updated by the bios. And so my Ubuntu system does not see the correct values. It still sees 1.6GHz idle, and 2.66GHz at full speed.

Is it possible to update this table according to the FSB manually set ?

    thk a lot.

    Undervolting Asus P5Q Pro Turbo

    @ KET:

I´m not able to undervolt my Q6600 with your Bios. I only have the options to use AUTO or a value equal or higher than 1.25V... Is there a way to enable undervolting on this board?

Phew, a lot of praise and questions in all those posts Heres what I'm going to do, now the P45 platform has matured and the kinks are worked out I will release a mBIOS for every P5Q series DDR2 board Asus have released. This is mainly so all the users who have missed the love of a Ket mBIOS have that chance. The mBIOS pack will contain a modified BIOS based on the latest BIOS Asus have available. Expected ETA: Maybe later today.

When the full set comes out, I'd love to try it on my P5Q-VM which is a current G45 board (I didn't see it supported in any of the downloads). I'm @ 3.6GHz on a E7300 and would like to get it a bit higher (any recommended voltage settings?)
    Thanks for the effort...

Alright.. here comes all the text tech stuff to do with the mBIOSes.

What BIOSes are these mBIOSes based on?

These mBIOSes are based on the latest official BIOSes Asus have available.

Will you release another mega mBIOS pack for all P5Q series mainboards?

Thats a categorical no. So don't even bother asking. After this mBIOS pack mBIOS updates will resume normal service, ie; mBIOSes for the P5Q/Pro/-E/Deluxe/Premium.

Now P45 has matured, how often are you going to release mBIOSes?

Whenever I see fit. I will check CPU and memory tables in new BIOS releases for any improvments I can port to other models of P5Q, if there are only superficial changes such as Express gate compatibility updates, I likely won't bother.

What P5Q models does this mBIOS pack contain mBIOSes for?

When will you release this mBIOS pack?

    Its available now.

    Whats new in these mBIOSes?

    In this gigantic pack you can expect the usual magic pixie dust sprinkling which includes;

    1. New memory table to increase memory compatibility. You can download the QVL list Here.
    2. New P6 CPU table to increase compatibility with CPUs
    3. All the normal fixes such as working pull-ins

How can I upgrade to your mBIOS?

Same as any other BIOS update. You can either use EZ flash from BIOS, a DOS boot disk (recommended) or update from Windows.

    Remember

After a BIOS update, follow these steps.

    1. Shutdown system
    2. Remove power cord
    3. Set CMOS jumper to "clear"
    4. Remove CMOS battery
    5. Push power button 3 time and hold for a few seconds (discharges any stagnant electricity)
    6. Leave for 2 mins

Where can I download this pack?

    Its available HERE

As usual, let me know how it goes.

Usually they're easy to open, you just press on the metal tab and the battery "pops" out.

    Boot Issues...

Just joined the forum. Great Job with the BIOSes Ket!! Am using 1613m right now. I just had one issue with my board though and was wondering if anyone can help me with it.
First of all heres my config:
    P5Q Pro
    Q9400
    4x 2Gb corsair dominator 8500C5D
    Asus Radeon HD4850
    Zalman CNPS 9700
Pc Power and cooling silencer 500
I have a bit of a funny problem. When i cold boot the pc after it has been off for some time, the fans spin up and nothing happens. I have to wait for some time and then the I get a beep and the bios says that overclocking has failed. I load my settings and then everything works fine. Im running the ram at 2.1v at 1066Mhz. I have kept the NB voltage to auto as initially it would boot fine on this setting. Otherwise everything works great... i have not shut down the pc for 3 days now and i have not gotten a single error!!

Is this a problem with my Mobo as initially it would boot up fine on these settings. Have tried every version of the BIOS including Ket's Bioses but to no avail. I can run Sandra, 3D Mark or prime 95 for as long as i want without a single BSOD so im mostly sure that my harware is ok. A lot of people do seem to have this problem but other than resetting the cmos, no one has been able to suggest a proper solution. Looking forward to your help!!

    It could one or a combination of the following;

    1. Your NB does not have sufficient volts to keep everything running as it should. Try setting a manual value of 1.2/1.3v. If you have your CPU OCd, try setting 1.4v.

    2. Any CPU/memory OC you may be running isn't quite fully stable. Bump up your CPU/RAM voltage a bit, say 0.5v.

    3. You have a slightly weak SB, set a voltage of 1.2/1.3v.

    4. Your PSU is starting to fail.

    5. Your mobo is starting to fail.

    6. Your PSU may be struggling to provide enough power.

    7. Try flashing your mobo with the latest BIOS (mine or official, I'm not predujice ) but don't flash through Windows, do it from pure DOS. To flash from pure DOS prepare any kind media you desire and make it bootable (floppy, CD, USB stick, whatever takes your fancy). Use the version of AFUDOS HERE, put it on the boot media with whatever BIOS you want to use. Restart your system with the boot media left in and at the DOS prompt that will load type; AFUDOS.EXE /iBIOSfilename.rom /PBNC /N

AFUDOS will handle the rest. Once the flash is complete restart as asked, shutdown the system, remove power cord, battery, and set CMOS jumper to "clear". Press and hold power button a few times, leave for 2mins, then power everything up again.

    Once thats done enter BIOS and set voltages manually. Try;

    CPU: 1.25v
    RAM: 2.2v
    NB: 1.2v
    SB: 1.2v
    LLC: Enabled
