Dont know about the gigabyte board, but im currently running an EO q9550 in a p5q deluxe, 1.200 vid cpu. I have it at 3.8ghz (8.5x450) on 1.21875 vcore in bios, windows idle 1.200, prime load 1.216, gonna try for 8.5x470 ono over the weekend. The p5q dlx is a good board but it seems to have a steep learning curve.

Got my new E0 Q9550 VID 1.1625 up and running at 4.0 stable with 1.29 volts and my temps with LinX peak in the upper 70's and my A/C is set to 70 degrees (dont know what that is in celcius?). That seems awful high to me? I am using a vendetta 2 with OCZ freeze TIM. Is that to high for my setup?

generally, the lower the VID, the hotter it will run

Try some Prime and see what temps are. As WhiteFireDragon said, low VID CPU's run warmer, but have good chance of clocking higher on less vcore with good cooling. Maybe best stick to Prime and Hyper PI if you go any higher.

Thanks guys! I think I will also remove the HSF and clean everything up and reinstall it. I may have used a bit to much TIM now that I think about it.

Anyone bought one of these lately from Newegg? Just wondering if it was an E0 or not, also what batches are clocking the best...

so when i goto pick mine up tuesday i should look for one with a low vid?

as stated the CPU's with the low vid's run hotter than others? what is a normal vid for these chips?

I can speak for 2 cpus with the same batch number ( L838B469 ) that are clocking really good. (4.00ghz with 1.21v and 4.25ghz with 1.31v). The SS are earlier in this same thread.

The normal (aka more common) vid is 1.25v. I´ve seen lousy clockers that also were low vid chips, so Im afraid that there is no general rule in the vid thing.

these been out for a while now, so most likely you'll get the E0 unless you're really unlucky.

VID for these 45nm quads are tipically 1.25v. generally when it comes to OC'ing, people look for lower VID chips because many times they have more overlocking headroom. however, you'll need some good cooling because they produce more heat when overvolted than the normal 1.25v chips. when you go to pick it up, there's no way you can "pick" the VID because it won't tell you on the box. you'll have run it to find out

i know this is extreme OC'ing here..lol buti think 3.6-3.8ghz is about as far as im gonna push this one. i would like to keep it for a year or so..lol
with it being a EO i should be able to get that pretty easily no matter what vid i get right?

with those clocks you're aiming for, i'm pretty sure almost any quad can hit those speeds. with the 45nm quads, stepping won't really matter much

so i could aim for a higher OC with little effort? i have heard the EO stepping would hit 4.0ghz with very little vcore increase. and some have said they can do it in auto settings? i doubt i can do that with my gigabyte board.

Hi guys, I've got a Q9550 E0 (VID 1.25V) and I'm trying to get 3.4 GHz with a less voltage than 1.25V, my mainboard is a P5Q-E with 2 sticks of GSkill PK PC8500 5-5-5-15. Do you think it's possible ?
My CPU is now at 3.306 GHz with 1.23V (1.20V in Windows and 1.17-18 while running OCCT, w/o LLC).

Are you talking 1.25v real or set in bios without LLC? If its real (cpuz reading) I think that is more than possible.

I've looked at CoreTemp, and the indicated VID was 1.25V, so, VID is the true default voltage assigned before the sale.

well i got the Q9550 and the new OCZ vendetta 2 installed.
i had to take out one of my areo cool 140mm fans on my side panel(Coolermaster RC690 case). the Vendetta is a tall sob.
    fired up without a hitch.
    passed IBT with ease.
and the temps are awesome. at idle range from 32c-39c at max IBT temps the max only got to 53c on core 0 core 1 50c core2 48c core3 48c
here is some screens of each test.

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=604485

gonna let it burn in some then slowly take up the OC. also going ot run Orthos and Prime95 will post some results
also going to runs some dvd rebuilder and see the speed difference from my E8400

    EDIT
i just noticed. this title to the thread says EO Q9550 SLB9V ON MY CPU and box it says SLB8V is ther 2 different CPUS???

what the max multi for this chip? 9? 9.5?

    EDIT again
heres a shot of core temp and the vid. id say i got me a good OC'er right?

Agree with that mate, i can speak for Q9650 there are some series (complete batch) that are the same vid...in my case i searched for complete batch number L828A446 googled it for 1 month and all (8 at that time) where vid 1,15 to 1,1875) so i went for it and i get 1,1875...

General rule is that any lower vid will OC more than a normal vid if cooled the right way but i've seen some cases where this rule is not like that but mostly there's a higher % that a lower vid will OC more than a normal 1,25.

Other thing that is very enjoyable on this lower vid is that you can do magic at lower volts, mine does 4005 with just 1,16 vcore for ex and till 4300 is very cool...an OC for summer for ex, now that im on winter im on 4403 (518x8,5) at 1,376 runing cool also or 4500 with 1,396, and can play at 4635 at 1,42 over that heat starts...

    Cheers
