It's not a great cpu if it runs at 4.5G air only

LN2, DI and phase experience? Check. Access to LN2 and colder? Check. Pot and phase change coolers? Check. Count me in

why shouldnt us normal OCers have a chance to own a great cpu?you never know it might inspire us to move to your level(LN2)after reaching our meager normal OCing limits
By cherry chips we are talking about chips that do well under heavy cold ( LN2, Cascade, Dry Ice ) [ the latter applies to some not so common cases ].
Those chips generally do the same with the average chips on air / water cooling.

Having ( per say ) a 5.5GHz Core i7 and running it at 4 - 4.2GHz on air is a big waste, one way or another, especially if you consider the other options... most of the D0 revision i7's can do 4 to 4.2GHz on air, probably with less voltage as well ( since most cherrypicked i7's are high leakage voltage loving chips ).

I have 2 E8600's that do 4.8GHz 24/7 at approx 1.46V, one of them can bench @ ~6.2GHz on LN2, and the other runs flat out at... 5.9GHz... so, I decided to sell the second E8600, since it's of no use to me.

The same thing applies to this situation ( at least that's my feeling ).
    Coding 24/7... Limited forums/PMs time.

We don't even know what chip it is, besides the fact that it is "cherry". But if it is indeed a 5.5GHz+ Nehalem based processor then yes, I agree completely. It would be a huge injustice to the chip's potential for it to go into a rig for 24/7 usage.

I agree, but it is indeed a competition. If it requires any type of overclocking even I would have a small chance at winning

Its not just about cold its about having the backline to take advantage of it.

All the LN2 on Earth aint gonna make a cherry E86 shine on a 650I for example.

Cant be elistist. A cherry chip might still shine on good phase or dice.

The fact its a cherry chip is the biggest sticking point... it brings us back to- how should these things be treated when it comes to submitting results, regardless of the owner

I would be sooooooo sad to see a cherry chip got to waste as a daily gamer and not beign pushed to the limits (not in UT3 LOL )

Nice idea Fugger. And this whole thread is pretty interesting and funny at the same time. People are getting overly worked up over this and we don't even know the details yet.
