Exclamation Corsair dropping Elpida Hyper RAM after reproducing failures in labs

We have seen a number of reports across various forums about failures of modules (from Corsair as well as from other memory manufacturers) built with Elpida “Hyper” RAMs. Through lab testing, we have now been able to reproduce similar failures. We are continuing to test to determine the cause of these failures. Note that although a relatively small percentage of “Hyper” ICs appear to be affected, the rate of failure is not acceptable to Corsair or to our customers.

Due to these failures, we will no longer sell Hyper-based modules until the issue can be resolved. We have also have asked our retailers to return any modules they currently have on their shelves. Products impacted include TW3X4G1600C6GTF, TR3X6G1866C7GTF, TR3X6G2000C8GTF, TR3X3G2000C7GTF, and TR3X6G2000C7GTF. We are working on enhancing our manufacturing and testing process to be able to offer these parts again as soon as possible.

We continue to stand behind these modules 100% with our standard warranty, which can be found at http://www.corsair.com/warranty/default.aspx.

    Cool!
I like to see this. When i worked for Seagate(in the clean room), about 35 to 40% of
the drives we sent out, failed or were not up to SG,s specs.

Mostly motor noise. The motors failed O-scope testing.

This was of course a long time ago. Not sure how they are now.

Expect others to follow suit, especially after our conversations with everyone recently.

they are just trying to protect the majority of thier customers, most of which never oc thier ram. i'm happy to hear that corsair cares enough about thier quality and reputation to take far-reaching steps to prevent module failure.

I submitted my piece today highlighting the problems Dinos, we let the vendors know earlier today. It should be in the engine in a couple of hours tops. I did not hold back..

EDit: Also sent an email direct to Elpida, 2 days later and no official response - not good.

Doh ...... Just got the 1866GT kit.

At least they booted up when I got it on the classified and running at its rated specs.

Now I'm going to worry if they are gonna go bad any time soon... at least Corsair is close to me if I need to do an RMA and also probably no hassle to get RMA on these things no question asked.

Question is what will they give you if you RMA it??

--Side note did have to RMA the FINS .. the paint was already flaking on them when I pulled them out of the packaging. Corsair said they would send me a new set of Fins Wonder if this happened to anyone else

Remember the Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1GB DDR sticks? At least Corsair is not selling defunctive memory to the public, like Crucial did!

so the rumors of elpida recalling hyper or offering a recall to vendors were true then... since i doubt kingston and elpida would recall any stock unless elpida would give them the money back for those sticks/chips

good news overall, though i must say, im a bit surprised it took this long for dram vendors to react...

So many of those sticks have died

My Kigston contact said same thing about week ago that Kingston has put Elpida on hold.
