CaseCarnage... what are you up to?

finally, was able to squeeze an update on the project. been working on something that i've been pondering about for sometime. got the idea first time from xs a build by alex of petra's tech shop and another one done by elusid, they called it paraflow. cool air goes into the front of the case and the 2 rads mounted adjacent to the intake would be exhaust. this setup would allow the cool air to be pulled between the 2 rads and hot air will be exhausted at the sides.

borrowed graphical explanation from coolmiester (in alex's build log)
but for my case, instead of using the front... i've decided to get it setup at the bottom.

anyways, for those with weak heart for silverstone cases being 'violated'... turn away now. you've been warned!

got the bitspower radgrill for this operation

    mock placement and markings

case bottom masked up and feet removed

    the carnage begins

and it ends with a heavy ka-plunk

    view from the top

    edges cleaned and filed

case feet repositioned to outer edges... should have better clearance from the tabletop and center of gravity

the grill mounted using m4 socket screws

it's gonna look awesome from the bottom... haha.

Very nice =) I'm glad to see someone else is using the Paraflow concept. I honestly don't see why other people don't do it. Ha you could have some MASSIVE cooling power in that case if you did a 320 in the top, two on the sides in paraflow, and then two in the bottom... it would be overkill but what the hell. Good job keeping everything clean so far, can't wait to see how it all turns out. I get a big order of parts in for my rig tomorrow (finally) so I'll be able to start my log up again as well.

thank you elusid. the concept was quite interesting. and your idea on massive cooling power is intriguing. i'll take note of that and how things progress. good to hear that you'd have an update. looking forward to seeing the developments in your project as well.

Amazing job on that cutout Bianco!

I can't believe you got through 4mm of aluminum with a dremel cutoff wheel; that's fortitude!

How many wheels did you go through?

Bianco, I'm really looking forward to your future updates - keep up the great work!

thank you Charles! ditto, i've actually kept the cut piece and placed it on my desk... somewhat like a trophy for that long task! thoroughly used up discs - 10, broken/snapped/obliterated - 8.
i've actually ordered the speedclic wheels, but the delivery took so long, i was finished before i could use them.

that's very generous of you, appreciate it much, a compliment coming from the great master of modding

haha. i'd be glad to... but wait for me to have more control on the dremel and get over my trembling hands when i cut. although, if i remember correctly... i was quite amazed with your cuts and nibbles in your 'ugly duckling' project last time before you went on to the pinnacle.

Amazing dremel work, bianco. I can't believe your hands trembled when you did these cuts - they look perfect. Also looking forward to another Paraflow project. This seems like quite a good way to go with some of the newer cases.

    thank you shazza.
and yes tremble it did! trembled like crazy. i have to use my left hand to keep the right hand from going off-course. anyways, i attribute the final outcome to manual filing. i guess like my drawing... i can do things better manually (with pen and paper) than with technology (damn stylus.. haha).

glad that it'd fit the 1366 socket. i'd hate to part with my classified just to fit a new chip.

no need to justify. pat yourself on the back, you deserve it! Why? Well, Why not? Nice buy bianco. ... though seeing it on stock air is shattering my mortal coil. (of course this is only temporary I know).

I wish I had that kind of money haha. I'm trying to juggle college tuition, my computer, and a social life... needless to say it's rather complicated. Keep the pics coming! I want to see how your paraflow system goes =)

i understand you bro. came from that also. but during that time, i had to let go of the pc hobby... but then now, different challenges, but i'm just glad that my wife supports my hobby (as long as i don't forget about her and my 2 kids... and any expense is paid by me).
