Just how bad is the ES Chip problem ?
As I get ready to rerun my 965XE chip I allways take a look at what I am up against.
So what people say that ES chips are not that great etc. yet we see so many on the list.

I think he's just trying to give fair warning to people who might get caught up in a mess. It's really not worth hunting for those. Community binned retail is the best anyway. That's the beauty of the forums sharing all the results from different retail cpus can show the gems.

Agreed mrcape.
But take another look, how many so called illegal chips are on that list, and there is lots more believe me.
These chips simply cannot be gotten by us regular people and these can "only" be gotten through manufacturing contacts, or purchased on the black market through illegal means.
I hardly think this is fair for all who compete on the bot using normal/legal means of getting equipment.
This only indicates that retails OC better than engineering samples. For pi etc there are tweaks/other non-CPU related factors that play a bg role. CPUZ validations is purely about the frequencies the CPU can run at, so that's the right rank to look at. And it says... Coolalers retail is 360 (!) MHz better than the best ES.

I guess no one really answers my questions...so if a person claims that he/she bought his/her ES CPU at premium price and is selling it, is he/she lying?
What if such person just lies to Intel (if they need the CPU back) that he/she threw it away? Or it has been destroyed? No trace after that, correct?

Lets just say, the W3570, W3580, and the 975 will own ya.
These three just happened to hit retail not too long ago.
Guys intel ES's are always property of Intel. And its not really up to you guys to complain, because intel gives the cpu's out under there conditions, not yours.
If you bought one, and most of you probably dont know where the chip came from, then good for you, you just got the chip illegally, and if the vendor ever asks for it back, you will likely screw him.
And the vendor who broke intel's trust is in big trouble if intel ever found out.
Intel can recall ES cpu's, and id hate to be a vendor when intel says cough up cpu number 5.
Oh wait... we have it already in our hands cuz we bought it from ebay..
Incase you guys are still missing it, i think dr.who is telling us nicely, Stop if were doing it... because the next time he will unleash a can of whoop ass.

you cant honestly think everyone is going to hold on to an ES chip...after they grow tired of it off to ebay or another means of selling it.
No its not right but it will never stop, you can argue the what if's all damn day it wont change how ppl think
i can honetly think of a lot of people who do hold onto the ES chips until they die.
But these guys get it though the real channels, and real means.
The number of ES's u see on ebay is nothing compared to the number of ES's intel gives out in distro.
But in some sense, guys who shouldnt have ES's having ES's tend to help intel as well. How else we gonna get leaks to make us crap in our pants for next gen tech?

I actually have 2 ES chips obtained by legit avenues I will always honor my agreement.
You can and will find many ES chips on ebay for sure, there is a guy from Vancouver Canada who sells them all the time and posts in his ad that he can legally sell them, once you quote the NDA agreement he never replies. I do not support the selling of ES chips but it wont stop its ppl's nature to profit
Here's hoping the Q9650 I just bought on ebay isn't an ES...if it ever arrives. It was £125 - very good, or too good to be true? The seller has since sold another one, so the ES theory at least explains why he's prepared to let them go for so little when most preowned Q9650s are going around the £200 mark. :shrugs:

Why Intel does not request ES chips to be sent back to them?
I assume they do not because otherwise there would not be a problem unless chips are being stolen or some legal stuff was seriously flawed![]()

I've asked many times politely but never even got an answer, maybe you could star by reviewing who do you give the samples to and i never even asked it for personal reasons.
I'm one of the owners of the biggest hardware review website in spanish (3 million unique IPs a month) so we do tons of testing, support in our forums, work with motherboard companies, memory companies etc... and nothing.
So yes from time to time we have had to buy a couple of ES (not only Intel).

Yep they should definitely be "struck off" so to speak. Maybe the people that get these ES should be signing legal documents that give the companies the right to compensation. BTW the OP is using a BBC copyrighted name lol
oh i knowi was just adding some dark humor to the thread is all ;-) i completely understand where the OP is coming from with as of yet unreleased processors. as for processors that are already out in the wild available for retail, i dont think it should be too much of an issue

I hear you, there is a set of folks who get them all the time. And in some regions they can get a lot at once from different sources. But still i think that if you bin from 100 ES sent to manufacturers and reviewers and then you bin from 100 retail, you will get better chips from the retail pile.
IF your (Intel) guys from INSIDE, didn't SELL these ES CPUs by 100+, then all the other users couldn't sell them as well....
FIRSTLY "clean" your INSIDE selling of the ES pieces and THEN make these statements...
Because you (Intel) CAN'T sell these ES and then ASK not to be sold again in the open market.........
You're doing it FIRST.....
All the other words are totaly bulls.......
"CLEAN" YOUR "inside" guys and everything will be cleaned.....![]()

I guess this is the best place to post this question as people who are knowledgeable on the topic will be reading this thread (a bit OT sorry): I have an AA (pre-release) AMD 955be that I won in a contest - when the time comes for me to sell it and go to a newer model can I sell it on the forums or is it too under ES restriction?
