Anyone that can boot windows at 4 gig on air is very very fortunate.....especially with a 720BE.......I would not consider that a problem........toss some cold at the chip and it will surely boot 4 gig
You should take temp readings when you boot with a dmm probe on side of IHS

with Xp its the equivalent of running 1024mW prime.....we noticed this on ln2 when booting XP.....the LN2 pot would literally boil over....
No clue on the NB issue on that particular board.....
I updated this board to the latest public bios off gigabyte's site when it arrived.
Fwiw the chip i'm using holds multiple WR's.........and it can not boot 4gig on air in any board I have used to date.
