Due to my commitment and loyalties with ASUS UK I think it would be very disrespectful to use any other motherboard other than an ASUS brand and as such turned down team MSI.

I have been offered many times to enter competitions with other manufactures but have declined because of this.

I fill it is a matter of trust and loyalty from both sides and as such this is why I do not use other manufactures motherboards.

I am not like most benchers and the people who know me know my loyalty towards ASUS.

If ASUS decide to chose me over many other respectful benchers then that will be there choice but I fully respect there decision in whoever they pick.

It would have been great to have a team Uk as there are many other counters listed for this event and to be left out will be a great loss to this competition as we will never know what team Uk could have done in this competition.

I disagree. From season two there will be open qualifiers. People like Vivi have broken through from nowhere by becoming their countries number one and then making it to regional final competitions. I can see him appearing somewhere very soon.

Team Asus is proving bothersome at the moment. Head office are dragging their feet and about six very top (Asus sponsored) names REEEEAAAALLY want in. I'm guessing they may be discussing things with Kinc, but that's a total guess. If anyone wants to try and get an official response from head office, via their local reps, please try. At the end of the day, this team needs to be in Asus' pocket.

Team Tom's Hardware is hopefully being discussed by the mighty Germans. You know who they are.

    Massman is sorting Team DFI.

Team China is hopefully being sourced by Artkobe now.

    We're getting there.

Here might be a spanner in the works.

How are GPUs like the Asus Mars going to be dealt with? They'll be retail channel, but Asus only obviously. Are Asus going to provide these for all teams or only for Team Asus and everyone else realistically has a £2K ($3K) buy-in on the GPU hardware side?

Open to qualifiers will be nice. Some of us aren't sponsored so it's difficult to compete against the top in our countries that are. It takes time for the working man to purchase some of the hardware. Heck I'm in the automotive manufacturing industry.

Im surprised Asus are dragging their feet over this, they should be grinning ear to ear

Why should a manufacturer not be rewarded for innovation and creativity?

I loved the idea of a professional overclocking competition for a long time and put a lot of thought into this. This could be a lot of fun and very exciting. Let's see how this is going to take off!

Just to get some more background info - are the benchmarks set in stone or might they still be changed or maybe even altered during the competition? Will there be a winner in the manufacturers cup and a winner of the private cup? I assume everyone willl understand that there will be a huge gap between private and professional teams, in many different ways. COuld be a nice addition.

Also what are the precise rules for this? Has this been already been worked out - or is this all still on the drawing board?

Last quick question - to make it more exciting for the particpants - What will be the winning price? Just marketing or actual cash prices ?

    14 teams x at least 4 cards = ouch - hard buy-in

Let's hope Asus will sponsors those

I have the time and have thought it over, Nick will let you guys know later.

    Macci and ? team AMD?

I am making sure that intel will not provide hand picked CPUs. You guys will have to deal with what is in the stores. On real product, no misleading!

Anyway, isn't the purpose of all this to go as fast as possible?

Just guessing - I really have no clue - but maybe Intel doesn't like the idea of people complaining not being able to find high leakage CPUs. And these complaints most often is about their top bin.

Too often in the recent past we saw posts about people complaining about only finding bad Core 7 I965s, now supposedly most of the I7 975s are also bad, when in actuality their top bin is truly cherry on air. We don't hear enough - wow my 965 can bench at 4.8ghz on air, but mostly argh - my 965 can't pass 5.2ghz on LN2.

ok i just read the last few posts from guys i hold in high estime, but you seem to be asking the same questions that have been asked for the last 3 pages (and more) of the thread.

now these questions are spot on, but there doesnt seem to be any answers, highlighted by the fact that FUGGER has commented that he has some 'nice' chips on the way (this i dont dought for a second)

but then we have Dr Wgho telling us that ' we will not see any 'special' chips from intel, who i also dont dought for a second.

what this all seems to be adding up to is a lot of confusion, for the peeps concerned and the peeps following this, i for one am very confused

now i also understand that this is the early stages of this event, and alot has yet to be decided, but i would expect some basic rules and guidelines on this before, it was announced.

so far i have heard a few good comments, like,

one comp for individuals and one for manufactuers, allowing top clocks to be popped, regardless of kit.

other comments i have heard about, more rounds later, sound absurd, but again i would like to see some continuity in this.

it just seems we are waiting for some unknown to iron this out for some other unknown.

if i was sitting in a meeting and this was going on, i would have hijacked it, and done it myself by now. just for the very reason no one knows what is happening.

i wasnt interested at first in this, but have become very excited about it, this could be the event that does it for OC'ing

and it is OK to sit here and say this, but i will put my money where my mouth is, if anyone involved needs some kind of help on this i am more than prepared to do some work, even if it involves some boring drafting of emails or something.

Only problem with that is most retail i7's arent that great for extreme overclocking

    Also this part is HUGE:
The benchmark submissions must follow the same rules and standards for submission as both the orb and hwbot.
NO POST PROCESSING DISABLE, NO MIPMAP REG HACK, NO TIME WARP, NO PHOTOSHOP, NO BS PERIOD.
If you are caught using any of these on your benching your results should be disqualified and you should be made a complete ASS of.
I see the goofy stuff that goes on at these events and I dont want it to tranfer over to this. These rules for submissions need to be clarified before any benching begins

    Absolutely true, KP.

Since this runs in co-operation with Hwbot, I'll try to arrange that whoever gets caught red-handed in the F1 league is removed from the bot as well.

KP, without saying those methods can all be detected easily thank god. Attempting in F1OC gets you banned from XS as well. HWbot has more rules than FM, not sure why FM doesnt update.

This will take a lot more discussion and thought to even out the field more.
