    But how long will LGA 1366 be viable. I am going to get a i7 kit next week, but I dont want to end up having a socket which only supports cpu's over £500

    LGA1366 will support the first 32nm CPUs. (Westmere class).

    However Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge is a hmmh mm. Either it support none or it support both. From what I heard it support both. But the successor to Ivy Bridge will be a new socket for sure (2012-2013).
