    Cool AMD PHII X4 955BE ES + HD4870X2 CFX 36k 3D06 46k 3d05

First off I'd like to thank AMD for being great hosts. You guys knocked this one out of the park. Simon Solotko and Peter Hardman were great and Aaron Schradin's LHe pot was insane. Huge props to Brian and Vince, you two are some stellar benchers

Over the three days I focused mainly on 3D05/3D06. Compared to the CPUs that Vince and Brian were using, mine was relatively tame. I worked for two days with the Gigabyte 790FXT-UD5P to get my northbridge above 4GHz but to no avail. In the last 4 hours of benching on Friday I switched over to the Asus M4A79T-Deluxe that Vince had prepared for LHe and that board screamed. I've got a mix of results below.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE ES, Gigabyte 790FXT-UD5P, Corsair Dominator DDR3-1800C7 D9GTR, Corsair HX1000, HD 4870x2 CFX

    3D03 143678 CFX 800/950

    3D05 46151 CFX 800/950

    3D06 35615 CFX 800/950

    3D06 31109 Single 800/950

    CPU-Z @ 6547MHz

    SPi 1M @ 6490 10.812s

    SPi 32M @ 6090 11:54.563

All these results were terrible due to the low NB and I was still testing the CPU.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE ES, Asus M4A79T-Deluxe K|ngp|n prep edition, Corsair Dominator GT DDR3-1866C7 Elpida HyperIC, Corsair HX1000, HD 4870x2 CFX

    3D05 46574 CFX 800/950

    3D06 36100 CFX 800/950

I ran out of time here, had to pack up quickly and go catch my flight

    Real benchers bench upside down.

Awesome runs man! Shame you wasted that much time on that gigabutt mobo but it seems you made up well with the Asus board!

    nice man....really nice scores

how come you ran your GPU cores at 800?

    could they not do more?

    so this was LN2 only?

Vince was the only one on LHe. My GPUs do 860/950 all day long but I had troubles with the fans dropping to 20% after CPU1 and crashing out so I just used CCC and set to 800/950. Waiting on a decent 955 so I can bench at home with the GPUs on -40C alcohol

Nice run Gom. Shame you been having such bad luck with boards. waching all this fun you guys had has got me calling all over the state trying to score some LHe wich is proving to be dificult not to mention the $$$!
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

Glad you made up with the ASUS board and pulled ahead at the very end gom. Especially after watching you struggle and try at least 3 different setups with the UD5P.

Now that I have 2 of the gigabyte boards I think I'm gonna have to swap one for that ASUS board. Looks to do better with the chips altogether.

Nothing wrong with the board Slappa, just requires a little more work and time on the board to learn its tricks. Gomeler has had maybe 4-5 days max on the board, I'm sure he will figure out its secrets soon enough. We have had the NB up to 4700 on the gigabyte.....4600 is the max we have had the asus.....I had the NB at 4300 at this event, I ran out of multis and didn't feel like dropping ram divider to crank HT as the system was dialed in.

For reference speed is not always relative to performance.....4300 NB on one board can be equal to or greater to 4500 on another board..........with the f3L bios the MRL is pulled in very very tight, asus is known to "loosen" things up to achieve higher "speeds"

I had a blast. Now we just need to get you benching a Phenom II rig, all you have to do is keep the pot full of LN2

Thanks man. LHe honestly is too expensive to use even for extreme benching. It was a lot of fun to watch, but I'd rather stick with LN2 and be more cost efficient. I think the LHe bill for the three days was around $5k

Me too! I'd settle with a smaller one, that one holds 900 gallons. I'll take a 200 gallon tank to start.

Thanks for the help piecing together that last 790FXT-UD5P. I really wish I had swapped boards much earlier, the ASUS BIOS/board was just slightly more mature and resulted in slightly better performance.

I've been benching with that board for a while actually. You are the only person I know that has been pushing NB on that board. Even Peter Hardman was stumped by it. The Asus M4A79T-Deluxe loves my Elpida though, so I went to Fry's today and picked one up for testing. Bought 2 4870x2 waterblocks also, going to put the cards on chilled water next week with a retail CPU

For reference NB clocks best when memory is stable and IMC is happy.....IIRC you were using rear slots....the gigabyte works best with elpida in front slots Or at least thats what my testing has yielded. Give it a shot. Check out the gigabyte thread, Msimax is working with elpidas atm Not the only person, Msimax has been pushing the NB as well....he's also worked closely with me so knows most of the tricks.

I was using D9GTR like you and copied your settings. I'll stick with the M4A79T-Deluxe for right now

True but we forgot to take one thing into consideration.....I was using 2 sticks binned from 6 sticks total, and had them Id'd right down to which slots they needed to be installed in for max clocks...........they probably needed to be toned down a tad to say 1660-1680, the 1720 I was running was so close to the edge of stability its not funny.

This was msi's chip on the gigabyte.

I would say just sit down with it for awhile man, you will figure it out, don't count it out quite yet

Not that there is anything wrong with the board, but it is a drag to work with out of the box. Of course you spent countless nights figuring out tweaks for this board. I think I'm going to have to do the same when I get home. I just don't think my board likes my G.Skill Pi set that I have in there.

Anyone know what chips are in the G.Skill 1333MHz 7-7-7-18 1.6v set? They are actually pretty good OCers, mine go up to 1600MHz 1.6-1.65V @ 7-7-7-18 and am sure I can push them further.

    and @ Gomeler

No problem. I just watched your troubles for too long and felt I needed to help get you up and running faster with that last one.
