I got an Intel 80GB SSD (X25-M), Now what?

As described in the topic, i just got an Intel SSD. I made an image of my RAID drives with Acronis, restored it into the SSD, booted and all went fine. Defrag, System Restore and Search indexer were already disabled (i don't use them ever) and after booting i additionally disabled ReadyBoost and Superfetch.

Performance seems to be REAL good from what i've read in the forum and other sites, but...

Am i forgetting something? Are there any additional steps for performance/reliability/anything?

Align? Please elaborate. As for the firmware, yes, it came with it already, thanks

You never use search? Ever tried to? I consider it to be very useful.

The admins, in the past, have actively encouraged re-posting of the same questions.

If this forum was merely a library, then it would not be a forum.

    Give the guy a break.

OP: I don't think there is much else to do but you can search in google for Vista optimisations - in the OCZ forums they have a great thread about it for use with their Vertex drives.

You really don't need to do anything with an Intel drive if you are using vista or win 7. Disabling SuperFetch, no page file etc. have not made one bit of difference on my system. All I do is disable defrag and indexing. Disabling indexing does not do anything either on my system, but a search is ultra-fast with it off anyway so I don’t need it to be enabled.

What I can say that has made my system a lot more snappy is using W7 & Office 2010 64 bit. Getting rid of 32 bit apps on a 64 bit system is well worth it.

W7 is absolutely amazing running on the X-25M. I made sure to disable a few things (do them on any system) just to free up some extra space. I always use the sleep function instead of hibernate so I disable this freeing up 8Gb of space and I also disabled my page file (this is controversial so do some research first). Unless you are using some major memory intensive applications or doing tremendous amounts of multitasking 6Gb of ram should be more than enough to disable your page file as well, however some applications for whatever stupid reason require a page file. If nothing else I suggest setting the page file to a 1-2Gb size and leaving it be. After that I simply second what audienceofone said "Just enjoy"...

Why do some people suggest disabling Superfetch? Isn't that responsible for prefetching HD data to RAM so that the app you run regularly is already in RAM before you need it??? I can't see how that can be detrimental to an SSD.

Also, in general, I think that disabling useful and performance enhancing OS features to buy some longevity from a drive is mis-placed... especially by users on this forum where hardware is changed more often than underwear!

Saving space is a good point. I also disable system restore and delete the restore files. I use the Win 7 system image backup...takes less than 10 minutes to back up a disk and around 10 to reinstall.

Agreed This all comes from ocz and the days of the Core, it's not relevent with todays SSD's
